You would think being the ruling party in this challenge that I would have picked a better first theme.
I know why this theme is first, but I know I’ve done it before. And it seems almost repetitive to talk about what my blog is again.
That being said, it will be nice to see how people look at their own blogs and all that. So it works out well – depending how many people get into the challenge!
My blog is a mixture of things, but I describe it as a personal blog. Outside of that, there’s no real label for it. I guess it’s somewhat of a lifestyle blog, if not just because of the personal part. My topics range far and wide – baseball, my life, geocaching, photography, challenges, random thoughts etc.
I realize that not having a certain niche or feel to the blog likely hurts with visitors as they never know what to expect. Alas, I’ve always used the blog to be a place where I could write what I wanted to write about.
Over time, I’ve attempted to come up with a game plan for the blog, but it never really works. Whenever I try and shape it or give it a direction, I end up getting bored or falling right back to my potpourri way of doing things.
There could be random photos or thoughts or in-depth pieces of writing. There might be family things, or travel posts, or some random thing off the top of my head that makes no sense.
That’s what shapes my blog, though.
I never went into blogging with the ideas of making money or anything like that. I don’t have what I’d need to be a “career” blogger. I will say this – those who make money off blogging do some serious groundwork – way more than I’d be willing to do. Do I accept guest posts or paid posts? Sure. I’m more than happy to do a review or two as well (paid ones – I also do ones on my own with products I’ve purchased), but in the end, it’s not what the blog is fully about.
Do I get as many hits as I’d like? Nah. But at the same time, I keep control of my blog and what I want it to be. Sure I’d love new readers, but I want them to come for what I am putting out there.
I do realize I need to tweak things a bit, and I will be attempting to do that over the next year. I have some ideas and we’ll see if I can get them out there.
So how about your blog? Tell us about it and link up below. The 20 days of Chill is underway! Check out the themes and join us for this fun month-long writing challenge!

Happy new year!
I’m the same way – my blog is a potpourri of topics, but I like to think that “a little bit of everything” is a niche of its own ? At the very least it’s unique and authentic!
Not knowing what to expect is a good thing to me. Later this week I will be posting (for a different writing challenge) about how I embrace the unknown and actually prefer it over strict routine and predictability.
I’m very excited about 20 days of chill. Here’s to a great January! Thanks again for hosting it!
I can fully understand that and respect it. I enjoy having a potpourri of topics because it makes me feel like I am doing something the way I want to do it. If I was following a niche (and I ran a niche blog for three years), it gets hard because you can only write about things so much. Then it becomes forced.
Glad you are joining us for this challenge!
‘potpourri way of doing things’ – that’s me too
I find if you try to find a niche when you really don’t want to, it defeats the purpose of blogging. I like your explanation a whole lot and it sorts of explains my blog too.
have a lovely day & have a wonderful new year.

I think the niche thing works for some people. If you are making money off a blog, I understand it. But when it comes to personal blogs, I like the mix of things!
Hey P.J. we’re off and running. My blog is a mixture too, that is when I take time to post. This has been a busy, sometimes crazy year and writing anything has been relegated to bits and pieces. Maybe that will change with the new year. Anyway, glad to have a specific reason to write stuff. Thanks for hosting.
We are off and running with another year of the 20 Days of Chill. I enjoy this challenge a ton, so I look forward to what everybody brings to the table. It seems many of us are in that mix blog, which I think makes them fun to read! Hopefully you can keep posting throughout the year (maybe I should do one of these in the summer, too!) and glad you are joining us again this year!
I could have written your post (and you could have written mine). Hoping to curate a bit more focus over the coming weeks. If nothing else, 20 Days of Chill has got me thinking about possible improvements.
Well I am here and I am going to try!
You are one of the most dedicated bloggers I know. I love how you do these challenges. The photography ones have always been my favorite… but this is a good challenge for me now because I need to start writing again.
Thank you for being the host!

Glad you are back with us again!
I try and be dedicated and I love the challenges! I feel like they help bloggers get outside the box some. I do love the photo ones, as well, but I like the writing ones, too, as it allows people to really get creative!
Thanks for taking part!
Well, here we go again. It seems like it was just yesterday when we were doing this challenge. Hard to believe that an entire year has already passed. I’m in, at least for today. ;-0

Good to see you back at it, Paul! Hopefully this will help you keep bogging through the year! You had a lot of things you could have posted about last year! 😉
