20 Days of Chill: A new decade (Day 1)

January 2, 2020

And just like that, a new decade has started.

Remember the Y2K worry? That when the calendars flipped to January 1, 2000, the world’s computers would come crashing to the ground?

Now, it’s 2020.

I honestly don’t know what to write here … should I think about goals and challenges? Resolutions? Where I want to be for the next decade?

20 days of chill 2020

When 2030 comes around, I’ll be more than 50 years old. That’s kind of crazy to think about. But let’s not get that far ahead … it’s only 2020.

This is my sixth decade on earth. That’s also kind of crazy to think about.

So being born in the 1970s, I’ve lived in:

  • Six decades
  • Two centuries
  • Two millenniums

I’m going to assume most of those who are taking part in this challenge are in the same boat. I’m also probably sure that there’s other things we’ve lived through that I can’t figure out.

In the end, it’s yet another year on this planet. And it’s also the start of another 20 Days of Chill Challenge.

The decade is new. Make it a great one!

Below is the linkup for Day 1. If you took part, put your link in and check out other people’s submissions!

This post is part of the 2020 20 Days of Chill Writing Challenge hosted by A ‘lil HooHaa. Please check out the link if you’d like to see others or join in. You don’t have to do every theme if you don’t want! And for those participating, take a moment and check out the other participants!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

20 Days of Chill: It’s Back

December 11, 2019

There was really no chance I was going to give up on the 20 Days of Chill Challenge, It’s *usually* a fun challenge to take part in, so we’ll see how this year’s goes.

Below, you will see dates and themes. The challenge is simple – take the theme, write a post, come back and link up and visit others. Usually we have a lot of fun. I’m not sure how many people will take part, but hey – let’s give it a go once again.

20 Days of Chill logo

There’s not really any rules. I don’t expect you to write some 5,000-word manuscript, nor does it matter that you only write 10 words.. Write what you need to write. Your post, your thoughts, your style.

Participate as much as you want – or don’t want. If you do every other day, so be it. Your challenge.

I’m attempting to write ahead of time so the posts will go up at about 9 a.m. EST each day. Sometimes my blog decides 9 can be 9:30 or 10 or something like that. Linkups stay live for about five days.

Remember, this is a bit of a creative writing thing. Use the themes/prompts as you see fit.

Without further adieu, here are the dates and themes:

  • Thursday, January 2: A new decade
  • Friday, January 3: Beautiful places
  • Monday, January 6: Is that chicken?
  • Tuesday, January 7: Show me the way
  • Wednesday, January 8: Naps
  • Thursday, January 9:  Snow
  • Friday, January 10: Fri-Yay
  • Monday, January 13: Social media
  • Tuesday, January 14: Cheddar
  • Wednesday, January 15: Dream on
  • Thursday, January 16: Popcorn
  • Friday, January 17: Snapshot
  • Monday, January 20: Last meal
  • Tuesday, January 21: Battle of the phones
  • Wednesday, January 22: Sign it in ink
  • Thursday, January 23: Spam
  • Friday, January 24: May I take your order?
  • Monday, January 27: A cocktail, if you will
  • Tuesday, January 28: Bring me to you
  • Wednesday, January 29: Oh, thank goodness!

Please feel free to pass the link to this challenge page along to other bloggers. It’s always a fun little challenge to begin the year, and usually there are some laughs as well. Hope to see you be part of it!

20 Days of Chill: Outta here! (Day 20)

January 30, 2019

The 20 Days of Chill was created in later 2014, with it beginning in January 2015.

The idea behind it was a month-long writing challenge with fun and unique themes. The idea was born out of a challenge I used to participate in that had ended. I tweaked things a bit and changed up the amount of posts and such, and the 20 Days of Chill was born.

Back in those days, I blogged a lot more regularly, and I also got out and read and commented on many more blogs. I still love to blog and I still love challenges, but my consistency is not what it used to be.

I hope that will change, but as life moves on, you never know.

This year’s edition of the 20 Days of Chill had some interesting themes and I had hoped it would be a fun one. Alas, it wasn’t the best of challenges this year with the amount of people.

So, after five years of this challenge … it might be the last one.

I’m not saying it’s definite, but this year for my blogging will tell me for sure. It comes down to if i get back into a routine and such. If I do and I’m visiting blogs and seeing what everybody else does, then it might come back.

If not, then it’s outta here!

That being said, the Photo Blogging Challenge will continue and I hope you’ll all consider joining up with us!

20 Days of Chill: Fall vacation (Day 19)

January 29, 2019

Where to go for a fall vacation?

So many people do different things. I enjoy my area (most years) because of the colors of leaves and all that. I’ve even gone up to the northeast and into Maine during that time — when leaf peeping is crazy amazing.

But where else?

For several years now, I make a trip down to South Jersey and visit the beach (always helps to have an aunt who owns a beach house!) because it’s the perfect time to go.

Some years are better weather than others. But some of the years have been great weather, sunny and warm. I tend to go down during Columbus Day weekend and there’s always some things going on — which makes it fun. But for the most part, the shore isn’t as busy that time of the year.

It’s really quite cool when you can walk on the beach and, at most, there are like 20 people there.

There’s also something about being to walk on the boardwalks or in some of the smaller towns and not have hug

And you get to find some good end-of-season sales, too!

But what about you? What’s your fall vacation?

20 Days of Chill: Mountains and valleys (Day 18)

January 28, 2019

Life.

When one things of life, there’s a lot to it, isn’t there? There’s up and downs and lefts and rights. There’s good times and bad times. There are fun times and sad times.

Basically, mountains and valleys.

It can be explained that the best of times come when you are on the top of the mountain. You can see everything in a wonderful way. You can vividly see everything in front of you and things are going well.

The worst of times, are when you’ve been in the valley. Nothing is going right. You can’t see how anything is in a positive light etc.

Most of us, throughout life, will be somewhere in the middle.

But you can’t always count on the middle ground. Especially in today’s day with the amount of technology that can sway you with good or bad.

The social media world can be amazing. In the realm of friends and family, you can see all the good (or even bad) going on in their worlds. You get updates about what is happening the such. You have virtual games and worlds where you can make friends with people from around the world in the blink of an eye. Often times, these people can become as close to you as those you interact with in the physical world.

There’s the flip side of the technological world — that of cyber bullying, sharing too much info, and the overall negativity that goes around with technology (see social media).

This is all very hard to ignore.

But in the end, we all have choices to make. To be happy or so be grumpy. To smile or to frown. Do walk through life with confidence, or to drag your feet and be in despair

So choose your path. Work your way to the top of the mountain — the view is a lot better from up there.

Harper got her first foul ball (as you can see she enjoyed!) and we also had the chance to grab a couple others and give them to some other dogs. All in all, four dogs walked away with balls!

I rarely sit on a window seat when flying, but both flights today had open spots, so two of us could comfortably be in a three-seat row. Sat next to the window to do some photos/video and got some nice shots. Flying still amazes me. @SouthwestAir #Southwest #Flying #Airplane

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.

The theme for Week 3 of the 52-week video challenge was "Show your process of making something." Alas, I didn't get the time to do what I wanted to do, so I attacked something I filmed over the summer that I kept putting off.
