Messing with the blogging world since 2005

Which photo do you prefer?

January 30, 2012

A late post today, I know.

Alas, I’ve had a busy day. I had a forum on job hunting today, ran extra errands, actually found a geocache and figured out what the rattle is in my car (and that it will cost me $100 to fix).

When I got home, I was a bit blocked when it came to coming up with an idea for a post.

So, I’m going to do something I could have held for Foto Friday, but I’m interested in some opinions.

I went out for a photo day yesterday and got a bunch of photos that I really liked. Being I’m doing the 366 Project this year, I’m always looking for something to be able to use. I went to a friend’s place where there’s an amazing set of small waterfalls. The water was flowing. There was a little bit of ice and it was a nice setting.

Alas, the lighting at the top of the falls was odd and I didn’t have a remote for the camera.

But, I took a bunch of shots. When I sat down to look at them all, I had a very hard time deciding which to use and which not to use. Below are the three I considered, in order of how I rated them. The third one was eliminated first and then I waffled on the other two. The final choice came down to two things — I really loved the look of the first one and the second one I wanted to have look better and knowing I could go back to it at some point to get a better shot.

So here’s the three I had to choose from. What do you think? Did I make the right choice? What’s your favorite image of the three and why? Post your thoughts in the comment section!

Snapshot Saturday: Jan. 21

Another blast from the past!

OK, so as I work on this post, it’s snowing out a bit. It came down a little last night, too. We got a few inches. Remember as a kid what that was like — especially on a weekend?

Get all dressed up and out for the day. Sledding, snowball fights (if the snow was packy), building forts. Stop back home for a cup of hot coco and then back at it.

Ahh, the good days.

Some people still do that — with snowmobiles etc.

But as we grow older, though the snow is pretty and all, it’s easier to stay inside, do some work, play some games, catch up on things — or whatever.

So, here’s a young me, back in the 80s, getting some help as I prepare to go out for the day of fun in the snow.

Getting prepped to head out in the snow!

Enjoy!

Welcome to the most wonderful time of the year!

December 1, 2011

It’s December 1.

And, in my mind, that’s when the calendar truly turns to the holiday season. The music, the decorations — everything associated with this season is going to be in full swing soon enough.

You’ll probably start hearing the songs soon enough on the radio (if they haven’t already been playing)! (The above YouTube video is one of my top three favorite holiday songs!)

More and more houses will start putting decorations up.

Lines at the stores. Traffic in places you don’t usually expect it. Sometimes, snow. It all depends on where you are for that one!

But the holiday season is here.

Two nights ago, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer played on television. Tonight, it’s Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town. I’m sure others will follow in suit, soon enough.

So that means the tunes will be playing for the next month. The displays will be in full force. Lines at the stores will be longer and longer. Traffic anywhere around shopping areas will be more congested.

But, it’s a good time of year.

I have a hard time not smiling on a nice cool night with Christmas lights shining.

I realize that my current economic situation won’t allow me to be as “generous” this gift-giving season, but it’s still a good season. I learned long ago that this holiday season isn’t just about the gifts, but rather the time with family and friends. It’s about the act of giving, not the amount you give. And this year, one that I’ll never forget for obvious reasons, has made me realize a lot of things in life, including how wonderful this time of year really is.

So as this time of year really shifts into gear, stop for a moment and realize what we have. If you are reading this, you probably are doing OK. The world might not be perfect, but at least you are doing OK.

Take a moment to take a deep breath when getting mad in a long line or in traffic (I’ll admit, I’ll need to do this as well!)

Smell some holiday flowers. Say hi to people. Smile.

And, if you can, give. Toy drives and food drives are ongoing this time of year. If you can spare anything, even one toy or can of food, try and do so. I know a member of our geocaching community is organizing a toy drive at an upcoming event and I am going to try and bring a couple of new, unwrapped toys to give. I might not be able to do a lot, but I will do what I can.

If there’s any other way to give this year, try and do so. Volunteer. Help a neighbor putting up his or her decorations. Just get into the spirit.

As a World — and for those of you in the United States like me — it hasn’t been an easy year. So let’s at least try and have a good ending to it.

Oh, and while you’re at it — try not to put on 25 pounds by eating too much!

Now I leave you with one of my favorite Christmas specials — The Year Without a Santa Claus — and one of the best scenes…

A picture is worth…

October 27, 2011

Snow. Already.

1,000 groans.

It would appear winter is closing in. I went over the hill today to watch my niece in here JV soccer championship (they won and she had a goal and, should be, an assist).

Snow.

Probably an inch or two in some spots. Will be gone probably tomorrow as the sun is supposed to be back. But I have a feeling Mother Nature is knocking on the door.

I will not apologize for getting emotional and a little misty in the eye on reflecting on this moment and the story of our nation.
