Story Cube Challenge 10: June 10, 2018

June 10, 2018

(sorry for skipping a week. I missed it and it got late and I figured at that point … just skip it and push it ahead. So here we go… from the last one).

Ronnie looked around and rubbed his head. When he landed, it was with one heck of a thump. People should not be sent flying via a catapult, that’s for sure.

And where the heck was he?

It seemed, as he looked around with thick walls of trees and other obstacles, he was in the middle of a labyrinth. The paths were narrow, but there was a definite direction to follow. Ronnie went down one, only to find a roadblock. Down another – and the same. And then finally, he found a way out.

The current

But this labyrinth wasn’t easy. Blocks and openings. It seemed like he was here for days. Along the way, though, some odd things happened. A black cat crossed his path and he got spooked. The cat has piercing blue eyes and stared at Ronnie before hissing and running off. But moments later, he found a mace laying in the middle of the path. Though it would be a pain to carry it around, he figured it might come in handy.

Boy was he right.

It seemed like Ronnie was heading out until he came to a river. Slowly paddling nearby was somebody who looked like the grim reaper. Though we can’t be sure that’s who it was, Ronnie reluctantly accepted a ride to get across this river.

The person stared with a sick smile on his face, until Ronnie pointed the mace at him. Then the ride went quickly and Ronnie got out of the boat without trouble.

After landing, Ronnie found a path leading to a nice building. It almost looked like a lighthouse, and he walked until he reached the door and he knocked. He was greeted by a wizard, who told him to come into the house and join them!

For today … was a feast! There was a full pig being prepared for this feast and soon Ronnie would put himself almost into a food coma!

When done, he needed to get home, however. And this time, the wizard made a much better boat appear … and soon Ronnie was off to his home.

Story Cube Challenge 9: May 13, 2018

May 14, 2018

The bottle had the skull and crossbones on it. Was it poison? Was it something else?

Jeffrey wasn’t so sure as he swayed in the breeze, after a night of drinking. He wasn’t ready to stop drinking and he was eyeing the bottle that he found. But even in his state of mind, he wasn’t sure.

He took out his glasses and put them on to read the bottle.

“Don’t drink … not healthy … bad for you … “

The current challenge.

Not all the words made sense. But he knew the bottle was saying it wasn’t good for him. A crow flew over him making a sound that startled him. He looked up, but didn’t release his hand on the bottle. Could that be a sign?

He tried to remember what happened last night. How did he get to this point?

Jeffrey thought he had been somewhere in a boat or on the water somehow. Maybe not, but water was definitely part of the night.

Then he remembered an amazing feast! There was a king there, wearing a great and shiny crown! For dinner, it was much seafood … including fresh crab legs – his favorite. Following the amazing dinner, the King showed Jeffrey through his kingdom, and ended the evening with a great circus under a big top.

It was amazing!

Something was prickling at Jeffrey as he started to move. There were a few empty bottles near him. But his back was hurting and he couldn’t figure why. Then he looked around and realized he was … in a landscaping business yard. And he had chosen a cactus to lean against.

What in the world had he done the night before?

Before he could be caught though, he quickly stumbled to his feet, and tried to wander off swearing he’d never get like this again.

Maybe.

Story Cube Challenge 8: April 29, 2018

May 1, 2018

Life isn’t always easy — that’s something we can all understand.

Take for example, Jimmy. Talk about having ups and downs. Just the other day, it might have been one of the worst days of his life.

How is that, you may ask?

The current set.

It started in the morning when he tipped over an experiment he was working on. The glass shattered all over the floor and poor Jimmy cut his hand when he was trying to clean it up. All that work for nothing!

Poor Jimmy.

The day got even worse as Jimmy got a call from the police saying his house has been robbed! Oh no! Jimmy event tried to get out of a meeting. He raised his hand and was told if the police were already working on it, there wasn’t much he could do so he may as well just stay and take part in the meeting.

But as bad as a week might have been, Jimmy’s weekend was better. The weather was perfect and he and his galpal took a nice stroll one evening. That followed by some outdoor games and sightseeing and just enjoying the wondrous world.

He even got to see his siblings kids and played with them for a while, before heading out Saturday night for a night of dancing and kibitzing. It all made him realize life wasn’t so bad after all.

As Jimmy has decided … as long as you have friends and family who help make life great, then even the bad times don’t seem so bad!

Story Cube Challenge 7: April 15, 2018

April 15, 2018

Stepping out into the brisk spring night, Johnny knew he was late. He looked up into the sky and saw a few shooting starts and hoped that would be a good sign

Maybe he wouldn’t get into too much trouble.

He hopped into his car and turned the key and all he heard were clicks.

“You can’t be serious!” Johnny screamed to nobody.

The current challenge.

He looked at the clock up on the corner and he could see he stood no chance. His phone was blowing up with text messages. This first date … he got tickets to the theater. It was something this girl wanted to see.

And Johnny was going to blow it.

He pulled out her card and looked it over. This wasn’t something he wanted to do, so he took his own hand and slapped himself in the face.

Yes, he probably deserved way more.

He had been away this weekend with the boys. That’s where things went wrong. It was a last-second thing and they got some cheap tickets, so they flew to Las Vegas. The problem? They decided to fly out the morning of his first date.

And when you mess with those types of things …

The plane was delayed. And delayed. He looked at other airlines. He was cooked. He texted her and said he had some issues. But he was doing his best.

He had the tickets, after all.

They knew they had at least two hours before their flight, so they went outside and found a small park. There were plans back home for all of them and they needed some fresh air. He took his shoes off to walk in he cool grass, but that just shows how much karma bites you when you are down …

… He stepped on a ground bee’s nest and got stung! It never ends.

And that brings us back to the current time. Sitting in his car, something hovered over his car. A UFO? He swore he saw an alien before a bright light flashed in his face.

… And that, honestly, Tiffany, is why I was late. There’s nothing I could do about it.

The last thing Johnny truly remembered was the hard slap from Tiffany’s right hand. He definitely saw stars again …

Story Cube Challenge 6: April 1 (3), 2018

April 3, 2018

Timmy’s dream was to be a professional wrestler.

Ever since he was a kid, it’s all he could dream about. And as he went into his adult years and looked to pursue his passion, there were road blocks all over. He went to two wrestling schools. He competed on the independent scene.

It just wasn’t working.

Driving four ours one way to get paid $10 and a slice a pizza to be the second match and only given 10 minutes was starting to drain on him.

That’s when he got the phone call he had waited for.

The dice for the current story.

It seems that a celebrated wrestler in Mexico, El Mousito, had a rough week. It started when he was in a match with his longest enemy. They fell out of the ring and to the ground. The place the matches were being held was in a bad part of Mexico. And it wasn’t clean. His leg went under the ring and … he felt something latch on

A rat had bitten him and then scampered by to the shock of El Mousito!

He felt woozy. He didn’t know what was going on. He just went through the matches and finished. He was then rushed to the hospital, where a doctor looked him over. He took out his stethoscope and listened to El Mousito and his face went almost white. It seemed El Mousito was in a bad spot.

The two had a conversation and Mousito said he was having a hard time moving. It almost it felt like he was in a giant cobweb or something. The doctor then talked and said those were common symptoms of what El Mousito had. The bit had done some damage, so they were going to have to get him better.

The doctor then pulled out a mirror and gave it to Mousito who looked and saw his face covered in spots.

“You have mouse pox,” the Doctor said. You will be staying here for a while so we can make you healthy again!

You can imagine how hard that was for the promoters of Mexican Championship Wrestling! This was their hero! He was fighting for the championship in less than three weeks! Who could replace him?

The phone rang and Timmy finally answered. This was what he had waited for. A plane awaited and before he knew it, he was on his way to Mexico.

Donning a mask, like traditional Mexian wrestlers, he was known as El Archer! He came to the ring carrying a bow and arrow and a target, and before each match, he would shoot an arrow – usually for a bullseye.

And weeks later, fighting for the honor of El Mousito, El Archer won the championship and as the crowd chanted his name, he held the trophy high in the air!

I wrote this about Sam Nader during a public celebration of his 100th birthday. I'm sure I'll have something more in the next day or so as well, but this covers a lot about my thoughts of this amazing man. RIP, Sam. You'll be missed.
