Photo Blogging Challenge (May 2021): Spring has sprung

June 2, 2021

Note: Please make sure you see the end of this post for the new way of doing things. It’s only one small change we made in November, but a change nonetheless. Thanks!

Nope. No excuses.

My photos were actually done early this month. The problem was, I just didn’t even think about posting. Then all of a sudden, I was like … well hell, it’s June 2. So… here’s the post! I have started working on a couple non-challenge posts. Maybe that will get me back into being better on deadlines!

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PBC2.jpg

Anyway, depending where you are in this world … the spring is here. This year feels way different than last year, which is good. We may not fully be out of the woods yet, but we are getting there. Things are opening near me. People are getting out and about. I still stay socially distant. I wear a mask where I feel it’s necessary. And I am fully vaccinated. But, I realize others aren’t (and that’s fine — their choice), so … I do what makes me feel comfortable. Either way, it’s nice to be outside with warmer weather. I’m working on some major changes in my personal world, so I am happy there’s some fresh air. Make no mistake, though, this pandemic changes me — and I’m sure the majority of people — in one shape or another. For me, I realized even more how much I don’t like being around larger crowds and how I have no issues staying 3-6 feet away from people. Here’s hoping the positive movement continues throughout this year!

And now that the spring is here, there’s color. There’s people out and about. There’s the smell of the spring. It’s very welcome. Work for me has been bonkers and will be through this month, so I’ll be happy when it eventually ends.

So, here we are. Another month. Has spring sprung for you? Here are my five!

1-2. Baseball!

OK, this is so welcomed! Before April, I hadn’t seen a baseball game live and in person since September 2019. To say I’m loving it would be an understatement! I’ve seen a handful of games so far and it’s been great. It’s even better being able to keep a scorebook and just enjoy things.

3. May showers and flowers

It’s been a bit rainy out there and the flowers show it some. The colors have been great, at least while these blooms have lasted.

4. Blue skies and clouds

After a dreary and gray winter… skies like this are so welcome!

5. Hiking views

I’ve been out hiking a little bit and I’ve loved some of the views!

And there are my five for the month!

If you took part in this month’s challenge, make sure to link up below.

And for those of you who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment (here, too!).

Let’s continue to grow this challenge and have a strong community. Come back and check out the others who link later on, too! NOTE: We have a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

** CHALLENGE CHANGE **

From this point forward, I am going to do the next theme at the bottom of each linkup. Also, the posting date will now be the first of each month, thus giving you the entire month to take the photos etc.

That means it’s a one-stop shop! Hopefully this helps out with everybody.

So, below is the linkup for May. Make sure you drop your link there. The theme for June is DIY! … Remember to come back on July 1 to link up and check out the theme for that month!

Photo Blogging Challenge (February 2014): Red

February 28, 2014

I am going to be fully honest here — I didn’t take many red images in February.

The reality was this — there was a lot of white.

And it was cold.

So I’m stretching it a little here. Hopefully spring is coming soon. That will mean out with the camera and shooting again, not just using the iPhone.

Without further delay, here’s my five. Not the greatest, but I did what could to meet the deadline.

Next month … hopefully it warms up!

1. Cameron

My nephew, in a red outfit. Nice hair, too.

2. Wrestling

With a red canvas and not a lot of lighting.

3. Light

 4. Heat

Warm up! It’s been cold!

 5. Game night

Playing with the red table cloth!

And that’s my five for the month of February.

If you took part this month, make sure you link up below. And for those who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment and visit so we can continue to grow this challenge.

Don’t forget, too, to come back Sunday, March 2 and see the theme for January!

NOTE: I also set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

Photo Blogging Challenge: February 2014’s theme is…

February 2, 2014

february2014

Oh, it’s that time of the month again.

Will love be in the air? Or will you all be hating on the chocolate hearts? Maybe Ralph Wiggum choo-choo-chooses you? Maybe not. Who knows.

But it’s February, a month away from the 1-year anniversary of this project.

So where to go with it? Well… let’s see.

Before we get to this week’s theme, allow me to remind about everything, especially for any new people coming on board!

Please remember not to use old photos. Only images you shot this month and it can be with any camera. It defeats the purpose of the challenge to use old images.

As a reminder of a few things, let me copy and paste this from last month:

  • I have an e-mail reminder list set up (which I haven’t used lately because nobody seemed to want it. I’d like to start it again, so please let me know if you want in on it). Basically, I’ll e-mail the group with about 10 days left in the month to remind you. When I remember, I’ll also shoot one out the day before the end of the month, as a reminder to post the following day. I can’t always guarantee that one though! If you are not on the list, let me know in the comments below that you would like to be on it. Note: I was bad on this … please join the Facebook group if you can. I update there more often!
  • Second, I set up a Facebook group for those who are interested. Reminders and maybe some discussions or other things can be done there.
  • If you haven’t already, attempt to check out everybody’s posts and consider commenting. These challenges are great for personal growth, but it’s also nice to be interactive with all the others in the challenge! That’s one of the best parts of this challenge — interacting and seeing other people’s work!

Before we hit up this month’s theme, for new people, allow me to refresh the rules a bit.

Here’s how it will work.

  • On the first of each month (or close to it), I’ll have a blog post here with the theme for the month.
  • Over the course of the month, participants will take photos with their interpretation of the theme. On the last day of the month (or close to it), participants should  publish their blog post, which will include five photos from the month. (please don’t recycle photos from the past … the idea is to hopefully challenge you to go out and take new photos each month to interpret the theme). And please only use photos you took.
  • I’ll have a link-up thing at the end of my post so people can come and post the links to their posts so, hopefully, everybody can go go check out and comment on other posts.

There is no rule on equipment or anything. Use a cell phone. Use film. Use a point-and-shoot. Use a DSLR. It doesn’t matter. Just make sure you publish your blog post on the last day of each month, come here and link up.

It’s simple!

Your blog posts can be as simple or as in-depth as you want. I’ll likely talk a little about each photo. But if all you want to do is post photos, feel free. The idea of this is to give a small challenge and give everybody a chance to express themselves with photography, participate in a challenge and have something to blog about.

That’s it. Easy, right? So join in! Help us continue to grow this challenge by telling fellow bloggers/photographers about the challenge and hopefully it can become a great monthly thing!

For those still with me, this month’s theme is: Red.

I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with here. There are so many ways to do this and I think there will be some great stuff. I can’t wait to see.

Please make sure your blog post publishes Friday, February 28.

If you think you are going to take part in this, drop a comment below so we can see who all might be trying to tackle this challenge!

History of the challenge (past month’s themes – links to see everybody else’s posts are at the end of the linked post):

  • April 2013: Transportation

Photo Blogging Challenge (January 2014): New

January 31, 2014

This was almost too easy of a topic for the month to pick.

Too bad, for me, it was a little harder to do! Maybe because it was cold or, maybe, it’s because there wasn’t a ton of new for me this month.

So I had to get creative, which is just what I did.

Despite planning on using the DSLR more, I ended up relying on the iPhone. So, with that in mind … let’s do it up. Five for the new, below. Enjoy!

And make sure you comment on other people’s so we can keep it as a community!

1. New Tire

I don’t even think I had 1,000 miles on the car and I caught a flat. Good times. It was so bad of something in the tire that I needed to buy a new one. Good times.

Fixin' a flat.

Fixin’ a flat.

 2. New champ

A local wrestler we’ve watched and been friends with for a couple of years won the local fed’s championship. Quite a good accomplishment. Hopefully it lasts a while!

#IBelieve

#IBelieve

3. Blogging

I decided to get a new blog planner this year to see if it helps. So far, not too bad.

Planning.

Planning.

4. Geocache

On Jan. 1, we went caching. So it’s nice to get some new finds. A FTF to boot!

Found it!

Found it!

5. Primanti’s

A new experience for me on a trip to Pittsburgh. It’s been featured on many food shows. Awesome stuff!

Yum!

And that’s my five for the month of January.

Photo Blogging Challenge: January 2014’s theme is…

January 1, 2014

Where has the time gone?

It seems like yesterday that this challenge was just starting up and here we are, now, heading closer to a one-year anniversary. Way too cool. Before that happens, however, we need to start 2014 off.

This challenge has grown slowly and has been a lot of fun to run and take part in. Hopefully, in 2014, we can grow a bit more. I’d love to see this challenge get to about 25 people per month. I think that would be a perfect number. If you know bloggers who enjoy challenges like this, let them know!

Anyway… it’s time to flip the camera and to keep going with the challenge!

Before we get to this week’s theme, allow me to remind about everything, especially for any new people coming on board!

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.
