So I’ve gotten to see some of Illinois today.
I met with a fellow cacher and did the third oldest active cache in the world.
First thing I realized? There are ticks in Illinois!
During the course of the day, I found three of ’em on me. Luckily, they hadn’t dug in and were only crawling. Still, it’s a creepy feeling when wearing shorts and the buggers are crawling on you.
I skipped lunch to get up to the hotel, check in and take a shower.

Speaking of my current hotel…
Originally, I had gotten a jacuzzi room. Not because I wanted one, but because they told me that’s the only non-smoking room they had left.
So I check in and head to the room.
And there’s no shower.
That’s not cool, considering I needed to take a shower.
Apparently, at this place, if you get a jacuzzi room, you don’t get a shower.
Anyway, back to the front desk and they found a double room, non-smoking for me. Same rate, of course (it should have been 15-20 cheaper). But, for the shower, I didn’t care. At that point, I had already paid.

Driving in this state is interesting.
Many of the highways appear to be toll roads. And when you get off (or sometimes on) one of these highways, you need to pay a toll. Here’s the problem — not all are manned. So if you don’t have an I-Pass (or an EZPass), you have to throw the coins in a basket.
But what if you don’t have the change?
Well, I’ll find out as I didn’t have the change. Apparently I can pay these tolls online. And being I don’t want fines finding their way to me, I’ll figure out how to do it.

I’ve found out Illinois doesn’t have rest areas.
Nope, it has Oases.
Seriously.
Instead of a rest area, you pull into an Oasis. The gas stations on both sides of the highway and there’s a walkway to the middle, overlooking the highway. Inside is all the food etc. Kind of interesting, to be honest. I stopped at one to get gas today (cheapest I’ve seen in the state) and found a cache at one, too. It’s good to see no matter the name, you can find a geocache at one.

Navy basic training graduation tomorrow. I’m excited to see it. Then heading to my next hotel, near Midway airport. Possibly a caching event. We’ll see how the day pans out.
