Another blast from the past!

OK, so as I work on this post, it’s snowing out a bit. It came down a little last night, too. We got a few inches. Remember as a kid what that was like — especially on a weekend?

Get all dressed up and out for the day. Sledding, snowball fights (if the snow was packy), building forts. Stop back home for a cup of hot coco and then back at it.

Ahh, the good days.

Some people still do that — with snowmobiles etc.

But as we grow older, though the snow is pretty and all, it’s easier to stay inside, do some work, play some games, catch up on things — or whatever.

So, here’s a young me, back in the 80s, getting some help as I prepare to go out for the day of fun in the snow.

Getting prepped to head out in the snow!

Enjoy!

50 questions that free your mind: No. 15

December 27, 2011

As part of my Day Zero Project, I will be answering the 50 Questions That Free Your Mind. For each of these, I will blog an answer and then it will be linked here as well. Some of these will have longer responses, some will be extremely short. But by the end of the Day Zero Project, I will have answered all of these.

No. 15: What’s something you know you do differently than most people?

It’s funny when you come across a question like this in this series.

Is this a question about talents? About how I live my life? About things I do with others?

So, I’ll go twofold with this question.

The first part is that I think I’m a little more loyal than many people. And that’s not always a good thing. For example, when it comes to work. I have always thought of myself as a hard worker. I may not always be the best, but I’ll do everything in my power to get a job done right. And that means remaining fully loyal to the point where sometimes I can get “kicked.” Maybe skip a sick day or two when I’m feeling crappy to make sure I go to work and not make life hard for others. But I don’t think this is different from a lot of people in that I know many people who are like this.

Could it be writing?

I have always been a writer of sorts. I had my first article published in a newspaper when I was in 8th grade and have followed that path for much of my life. Though I don’t usually like to talk about it, I feel I am a strong writer. I have improved over the years and now I think I edit my own work better and am a better writer overall. At the newspaper I was most recently at, I won or shared six awards. Those are things I am most proud of. It’s humbling when recognized by your peers for the work you do.

All my traits aren’t positive. I procrastinate — a ton. And that’s probably not something I do differently than most people. I sometimes slack at things, but I’m sure many others do the same.

So this seems like a question that’s a little more “out there.”

Let me answer it this way, as I don’t feel any of these questions have a fully right or wrong answer.

I am me more than most people.

I live my life in a way that I feel is best for me. Sometimes, it’s not to the benefit of others. Sometimes it might be. But I’ll often say what’s on my mind (not always a good thing), and I always try and follow the right path. I’m not saying I have always done the right thing, but I try. I know turns I’ve taken in life have led me to where I am. I can’t go back and turn an opposite way. But I look at it this way — there are so many good things in my world now, that’s it’s not worth getting upset because I took that turn. The other turn could have been better or worse.

So I’m me. A lot more than most people. In fact, I’d be shocked if there was another me out there.

And I’m happy about that. Hopefully, in the upcoming year, I’ll be more happy about it in a new place of employment and with a better outlook on this world. Then the happier me can come out and be even better.

But the writing part — I’d lean toward that as well!

Another blast from the past!

The next three weeks of this post should be fun as I show off me and my two brothers in our younger years. I’ll be starting from youngest to oldest, which means I’m first up on this little run through time.

A note to my brothers — laugh now, hosers, because you two knuckleheads will be getting it the next two weeks!

If I had to guess, I’d probably be somewhere between 5-7 in this photo. I almost think that someone made this sweater, too. Maybe my mother?

It’s one of the few photos taken of me over time that I actually like.

All smiles

Enjoy!

Snapshot Saturday: Sept. 17

Another blast from the past!

OK, to be fair, I often post photos of other members of the family…

… so…

Guess who?

I’m quite sure that little fella is me. That’s my Aunt Joanne, who is also my Godmother. Seeing as other photos I have that appear from the same day look like a baptism, I’m pretty sure that’s me. What a spud, eh?

Enjoy!

Another blast from the past!

Me, my brother Joe and my father

I’m assuming this was from a holiday when I was a lad. Just the setup of everything here (though my brother Joe doesn’t look too awful happy in this shot, eh?)

But with the centerpiece, the big ol’ ham, what appears to be a bottle of wine and everything else, I’m thinking maybe Easter? Not sure. Either way, I look pretty happy, eh? Love these old photos.

More later!

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.

The theme for Week 3 of the 52-week video challenge was "Show your process of making something." Alas, I didn't get the time to do what I wanted to do, so I attacked something I filmed over the summer that I kept putting off.
