Two and a half years is a long time, if you think about it.
A real long time.
Imagine all the things you can do in that amount of time? But, when you are unemployed for that long, it becomes quite repetitive.
Find jobs. Apply. Find jobs. Apply. Fix resume. Tweak cover letters. Find jobs. Apply. Find jobs. Apply.
If you’ve never gone through this, consider yourself lucky.
I used to do everything I could to keep my sanity and to keep my brain from exploding. I’d go out and do something in the fresh air. Or watch a movie. Or … anything!
As time wore on, it was tougher. I felt like a zombie. I went through the motions. Every once in a while, I’d get excited about a job prospect and go at it full force.
Then back to the grind.
Find jobs. Apply. Find jobs. Apply.
This past summer, I had a temp job. I was outside, shooting photos and was pretty happy. I felt my mind come back to me. And just like that – it ended.
Find jobs. Apply. Find jobs.
I was starting to get to my wits end when my current job came along. I’m not sure what would have happened if I hadn’t landed this one. My brain most definitely would have exploded from disappointment and everything else.
But, I got the job I enjoy. It’s challenging and rewarding.
I won’t lie, however. There have been a few times when I have been spinning all over trying to get so much done.
My brain exploded!
And with that, so ends another year of this challenge. I’ll get back to normal this weekend (I hope!) . So, until next February … the challenge is complete. Now I have to catch up on reading all the back posts!
This is part of We Work for Cheese’s annual writing challenge. Despite what might be blamed, I had nothing to do with it. Go check them out for other crazy writers doing this challenge.
T-SHIRT ALERT: Nicky has allowed me to create the official shirt for this year’s challenge. I did it via TeeSpring to keep it lower cost. They do all the work. However, it’s like Kickstarter. We have to meet a certain number of sales for this to happen. So, we need 10 shirts to sell. You can get a short-sleeved tee shirt ($13) or long-sleeve ($15). So go buy one. Or two. Or three. Buy! Buy! Buy! Go visit and buy at this link: Challenge shirts. Be the cool kid on the block with this one.
