It would seem to be silly not to have a review post about blogging … being this is a blog.
I definitely didn’t do as much as I wanted to do in 2014 with the blog as I had hoped and planned, but I still think it turned out to be a solid year. I still need to set more time aside to visit other people’s blogs as I do it in spurts and know I am missing good stuff. I have a few plans on how to do that better in 2015.
As for me, it was a pretty solid year.
I had some posts I was really happy and proud of, as well as a few that may have been better off by me hitting the publish button. I tried to do more photos and such and I kept up with certain other aspects and features, such as the Photo Blogging Challenge.
At the end of each year, WordPress also sends you an e-mail with a wrap of the year. That usually reminds me to figure some stats of my own.
- 226 posts
Overall, I think that was pretty solid for a personal blog. I do think, if I applied myself to certain aspects of blogging, I could get bigger viewing numbers. That being said, I am not looking to make money on my blog and it’s hard to gain a full-fledged audience when a blog goes all over the place.
The total views is down from 2013, though. I’ve kept stats since 2011, with 2014 being the second-highest total views I’ve received.
- 2011: 20,669
- 2012: 23, 925
- 2013: 26, 017
- 2014: 25,539
The busiest day of 2014 was January 14, when I got 353 views. That was helped by a post I put up about AAA responding to some issues I had when I had gotten a flat tire. The blog was also visited from 128 countries, which I thought was really pretty cool. Like last year, the top three countries were the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. It’s definitely neat to see, by hovering over the map, to see where all the hits came from.
Those 226 posts also grew my total number to 1,760, which means 2,000 is right around the corner. If I have 240 posts in 2015, that milestone could happen this year.
I also didn’t do the best with my blogging pledge, which I set in September 2013. I’ll be working on this in 2015. The reality is that I haven’t been the best with this, but I intend on correcting that.
The longest streak of the year was 36 days, running from Nov. 26 through the end of the year. That streak, as of this post, is still going on and growing. The best day was Saturdays, when I posted 44 times. That should be 52, considering I do the Snapshot Saturday. But sometimes they get missed.
One thing that truly did help me at times was having a blog planner. The one issue with it was the size of it. Sometimes I didn’t thing to carry it with me as it wasn’t the most portable. I know I had several ideas I missed out on because I didn’t write them down (thus not utilizing all aspects of the blog planner I used). This year, I have a different planner — it’s smaller and more compact overall, so hopefully I’ll be able to utilize it even more to grow the blog.
Shout outs
The stats also showed me who the top five commenters were to my blog. I’d like to make sure to give them a shout out and link to their blogs. They all have great blogs, so go check them out and enjoy!
- Phil at The Regular Guy NYC
- Paul at A Photo a Day
- Katherine at Shoot Me Now
- John at No Named Dufus
- Boom Boom at How to be a Cat Lady Without Cats
Thanks to the above five, as well as everyone else who has come and read, commented and shared my posts. I am grateful beyond words!

I also did a series on Internet Love and being phished… and truly had a good time with it. It’s a several-part series, so if you go to the wrap post, there are links to the whole series. Give it a read… I think it’s worth it and you’ll hopefully get a bunch of laughs. Click here for that post.
Overall, 2014 was a pretty good year for blogging. I had a few months early in the year where I wasn’t too active, but I’ve gotten into it again quite a bit. I just need to find the time to write a bit more … and have to make sure I remember to write down ideas so I can constantly have things flowing. I’m going to keep pushing ahead in 2015 and like where it’s going.
It’s also been nice to be part of a couple of blogging groups, and I’d really like to try and get involved with a blog conference of some sort this year, so we’ll see.
But it’s now time to flip the page to 2015 on the blog. And it’s an exciting one. In July, I’ll celebrate 10 years as a blogger with this one (in one form or another), so that is exciting. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long and I look forward to the future to see what it brings!
