Ahhh, spam.
When you hear “spam,” what do you think?
Maybe it’s all the junk you get in your email? And all those filters that try and block it?
Or maybe it’s the meat in a can?
Hmmm…
So Spam in a can is a cooked pork product and has been around for more than 80 years. According to Wikipedia, the basic ingredients are “pork with ham meat added, salt, water, modified potato starch (as a binder), sugar, and sodium nitrite (as a preservative). Natural gelatin is formed during cooking in its tins on the production line.”

Nom, nom, nom!
Now, it may not be the healthiest of items one can eat.
There is a lot of sodium and fat in Spam, which makes it something I’d likely avoid eating each day. But, as a “treat?” Why not?
Not everybody enjoys Spam.
It’s a different taste and it truly comes down to how you eat it. Personally, if it’s pan fried in thinner slices, it’s not bad. I like to put it on a sandwich with cheese and mustard.
Yum!
However, Spam is one of those things I don’t mind once every couple of months. It’s not the best with leftovers (though not awful) and definitely better when all fried up and warm and not when cooled down.
I definitely know it’s not the favorite of many, and I need to have it only when I feel like it fits. But in the end, it’s not a bad cheaper meal.
Just ignore the sodium and fat … at least for that day!
How about you? What’s spam mean to you?
