Photo Blogging Challenge (March 2019): Six

April 1, 2019

Six years.

What a crazy ride it’s been. Hopefully we can keep it going, even as lax as I’ve been to a point. But six!

I look forward to checking out other posts to see. A few people from the first year are still with us. Maybe in time it will grow again, but for now — the group we have has been great.

Six can be interpreted a bunch of ways, so for now … here’s mine!

1. 5K + 1 I took part in my first official 5K in late March. This was the finisher’s medal. So, the No. 1 sign and a 5K equals six, so …

  2. More simple math Three twos equal six!

3. Let’s sit Six spots to sit on our town square!

4. Six nibs I’ve gotten into fountain pens… here’s six of ’em.

5. Six testers I had to work at a junior iron chef competition … this was one of the setups. One dish to show off.. and six samples for the judges!

If you took part in this month’s challenge, make sure to link up below. And for those of you who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment (here, too!). Let’s continue to grow this challenge and have a strong community. Come back and check out the others who link later on, too!

NOTE: I set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

Feel free to leave a comment, or e-mail P.J. at hoohaablog@gmail.com. Also, please “Like” HooHaa Blog on Facebook! You can also follow me on Twitter @softball29!

Photo Blogging Challenge: March 2019’s theme is …

March 5, 2019

My goodness!

This theme is the start of the sixth year of this challenge. Six years! Though it hasn’t grown as much as I would have hoped, but it’s still fun to see what people come up with each month.

So for those who are current;y taking part in this challenge … and for those have in the past, thank you for helping keeping this challenge going … even if it’s late at times!

And now, we move on.

But first, here are a few other challenges to keep in mind:

Challenge 1: Tell others about this photo blogging challenge and get some friends to come join us.  Let’s see if we can get people interested in the challenge again.

Challenge 2: Make friends with your camera and see what you can come up with. Have fun!

Challenge 3 is at the end of this post (the theme!).

Before this, here’s some housekeeping items.

Here’s how it works.

  • See the theme (first day of the month);
  • Take photos throughout the month (don’t use old ones!);
  • Select five photos and create a blog post;
  • Come back here and link up on the final day of the month;
  • Use the official hashtag — #Photoblogchal — on social media posts;
  • Hopefully go visit and comment on other blogs.

That’s it. There’s no rules on equipment or anything else. Blog posts can be short and to the point, or in-depth. Interpret the themes as you see fit.

The one big rule?

Have fun!

This month’s theme? Six! This will be very open to interpretation, so it will be interesting to see what everybody comes up with. Please make sure your blog post publishes Sunday, March 31. Then come back here and link up.

If you think you are going to take part in this, drop a comment below so we can see who all might be trying to tackle this challenge!

There is also a Facebook group for those who are interested.

Photo Blogging Challenge (February 2019): Glasses

March 3, 2019

This was an interesting theme for me. I had a few thoughts and they didn’t work out. The kicker is one of the things I wanted to do … I had two chances at and didn’t take the photo each time.

Go figure!

So, I did what I could and looked at things a bit different. I look forward to seeing what everybody else came up with. F

or now, here are my five.

1. Glasses!

I have worn glasses as long as I can remember. I used to do contacts, but now I just get prescription sunglasses. Much easier that way. This pair is my current.. for another 4-5 days anyway.

2. More glasses…

Just something a bit different.

3. Full glasses

OK, this looks good, right? It was!

4. Fine spirits in glass

I got this on a trip to the Bahamas. It’s still amazing. Encased in this beautiful glass bottle!

5. Glass candle

A few years ago at a county fair, I made this candle… enclosed in the glass holder!

Also, don’t forget to get back here March 4 for the March theme!

NOTE: I set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

Photo Blogging Challenge: February 2019’s theme is …

February 4, 2019

One down.

It seems like I say that almost every year once we turn the page to February. And this weather has been crazy this winter — at least in my neck of the woods. So I hope you are all staying warm and dry — as much as you can!

We are headed toward the challenge’s birthday, so hopefully a few more will join us and we can keep it going. It’s always nice to see the faces of those who have stuck with us, but it would be great to get some old faces back and to get some others to join up!

Great work (I’ve seen all posted so far) for January!

Photo Blogging Challenge (January 2019): Books

January 31, 2019

When this theme first came up, I had different ideas.

I had all sorts of things in mind, but as I started thinking more and more about it, I realized I wanted to get a little more personal.

Personally, I’ve switched to my Kindle when I read books. It’s easier and more convenient for me. Though at times I miss the feel and smell of a real book, I like the ease and lightness of the Kindle.

Still, I like to collect certain books — namely autographed versions or something special to me. Each book I collect has a story and with only having five photos to work with, I’m leaving books behind. I’m still stretching things a little as several of these photos include more than one photo so I can not only show you the book, but what makes it special to me.

Each book has a story, too, so I’ll be writing a bit more than I usually do. I’ll look forward to see what everybody else comes up with this theme as well!

1. Hooooooooooo!

A couple of years ago, me and my brother went and saw the Hacksaw Jim Duggan show, which was a humorous “stand up” type setting where he told stories about his years in wrestling. After the event, of course, you could meet Hacksaw and buy a few things that he’d sign. I did one of the bigger packages, where I got his book, a 2×4, and a photo. Pretty cool stuff.

2. Best of the best

I’m a huge fan of Jayson Stark. For those who don’t know who he is, he’s an amazing sportswriter. And being I used to be a sportswriter, he was one of the big ones I looked up to. After the Phillies won the 2008 World Series, he wrote a book about them. During 2009, he was at a Reading Phillies game signing. So me and I took the three-hour trek down. Was totally worth it as we got to have a cool conversation with him.

3. Skywalker

Several years ago, I got into reading about the Appalachian Trail. I read trail journals and books and even did a series on this blog where I interviewed those who had hiked it. A few of them had books, and I read many of those. I even got to give a couple away. One of the books — by Skywalker — is one I got to also keep. He has more than one book and all are worthy of a read if you enjoy thru-hiking.

4. Acknowledged!

A friend of mine wrote a really good book about the Red Sox quest to its first World Series title in like a billion years and the battle with media. It’s an extremely good read. But back in the day, when we were all sportswriters, it was a lot of late night online chatting and such. So a few were acknowledged in the book … and I was one. Pretty cool. Great read though if you are into things like this.

5. My world!

For about a dozen years, each Christmas I put together a photo book of my year in photos for friends and family. This past year was the first year I didn’t do one in a long time. I just didn’t have it in me. It might return next year if I feel up to it. But this is my first one.   There are my five. I look forward to seeing what everybody else came up with!

I went this morning for a beard trim. It’s only 30-40 minutes, but it’s nice to have it done. A nice shaping, thinning it out a bit, a hot towel and a straight razor.

Nice.
