OK, in all honesty, this theme has absolutely been one of the toughest.
I have no idea what to write.
I could write about the 1937 dime a friend gave me when my father died. That was the year my dad was born, so it was a very cool gesture.
Or what about crappy coins in some board games? There are way better ones – thicker cardboard, plastic, or metal (rare), but it seems there’s often cheap ones.
Then there’s looking at the overuse of coins in society. Look at the United States – penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half-dollar, full dollars etc. There are even some higher denominations, I believe, but they may be more for collectors. In Canada, you have the two- and one-dollar coins.
If you have too many coins, it can really weigh you down!
However, I got a gift a few years ago that makes coins not too bad. It’s basically a small bank and when you put a coin in, it counts out how much you have (until you reset it). It’s pretty cool.
I saw a show – one of those pawn show ones – where a guy brought in some really old coin. Something from the 1870s or something, and the coin was really rare if it had a marking on it.
Apparently, the wife of this person decided to clean off the coin and screwed up some of the markings. If it had the markings needed, the coin would probably worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
From what the pawn shop owner was saying, it likely wasn’t that coin anyway.
But still – could you imagine? In the end, he didn’t even sell it.
Jerry Maguire was the Master of Coin, though pronounced Master of Kwan, if you remember that movie.
In the end, coin to me rarely gets used. I let it build up and eventually cash it in when I want to use it and it often gets me a couple of hundred bucks. So I can’t complain about coin, besides when it weighs me down!

I agree. My husband and I rarely use coins. We have a large jar in our bedroom where it all goes and when it gets full we cash it in.

It’s always cool to have something like that and then turn it into cash… and use the money in a frivolous way. It’s almost like a reward!
I have a coin jar for quarters, dimes and nickels and a separate one for pennies. These are especially handy to grab a handful for parking meters, though a lot of places are getting away from coin meters and using credit cards.
I have other coins, some foreign, as collectibles.
Oh wow, you organize! I definitely don’t go that far, but can definitely see the reasoning behind it!
I have a beer stein on my desk. When I get home from where ever, all the coins in my pocket go into the stein. Usually takes about a year to fill it up. I’d say it’s 10 inches tall.
Once it gets filled up, I take it to my credit union that offers a free of charge coin star machine. Interestingly, the stein hold about $100 in coins. First time I drop all the coins in there, I was surprised as were the tellers. The second time, only the tellers were surprised. I knew what the approximate dollar amount was going to be. Every time I go in, they’re always surprised, because they can’t believe that that stein will hold that much coin.

That’s a way I used to do it, too. Then I’d have a jar here and a jar there. When I got this little counter a few years ago, it worked perfect. I should have tried to take a photo for it for the post. That being said, it’s awesome your credit union has that. My bank has to take the coins and do them when “they have the time” and then they deposit it into your account. The thing is, this container counts the money and each time I’ve done it at the bank, it’s come up short from the counter (not a ton, but it’s still lower). I’m starting to think about using the one at the one grocery store here and just getting it on a gift card, like Amazon.
