20 Days of Chill: Can you hear me? (Day 15)

January 22, 2016

Not always, that’s for sure.

This was something I had planned to blog about at some point and this seemed like the perfect time.

Verizon’s ever-so famous catch line is “Can you hear me now?”

More times than not, unfortunately, the answer from me was “no.”

I had been a customer with Verizon for many years. But the town where I live doesn’t get the greatest service. It’s the same in one of the towns where I work, and in many houses in my town. Seriously. Without wifi, I’d have nothing in many places. And heck, that only works if I’m on the net or calling iPhone to iPhone.

I knew my contract ended in October, so it was time to start thinking about what I wanted to do.

When I first had a car phone (yes, I had a car phone – hooked into the car and all), I had Cellular One. That eventually became AT&T.

By then, I had switched to Verizon because they had the best service, bar none.

Things change. And in this day and age where things are so competitive, it’s easy to switch companies, take your number with you and move along with no issues.

But was it going to be worth it? Simply put – yes.

See, AT&T in my area is stellar. They actually have towers and there’s service in the valleys and such. I went in and visited with an AT&T person one night and found not only is the service better – it would be cheaper for more.

With Verizon, I got 4gb of data a month. Not that I used it all, but that’s what I got. With AT&T it would be 5gb, and whatever wasn’t used rolled over.

Nice.

The prices were cheaper overall and the way it was all laid out, it was perfect.

It wasn’t an easy switch, though.

I went to do it one evening and got through a lot of the process when the salesperson said my credit wasn’t fully approved, so I’d have to put a down payment on the iPhone I wanted to get for the setup I wanted.

My credit is fine. I know this. It made no sense. So I left. That poor girl worked that time for me and didn’t even get a sale.

After thinking about it – and contacting the same salesperson to clear a few things up – I went back and went for it. Again, not without issues as because the last time was stopped, the company wasn’t ready to let it go through again as it was worried about fraud. Once it was all settled though, I was set and went along my way.

I’ve been with AT&T for about a month and change. It’s been blissful. I have service and can actually make calls without tilting my head to hope I keep the call.

It’s a lot different, that’s for sure? Why? Because yes, I can hear you.

Awhile ago, we did just the opposite, switching from AT&T to Verizon. Verizon seems to be the only one that works at our house. Now at work, the best bet would be T-Mobile since we have a T-Mobile tower just north of our parking lot.

Yeah, it’s no doubt something where it’s a “your mileage may vary” thing. If people live in major cities, things like Sprint and TMobile might be worth checking. Around me it would be silly. But in the areas where I need it most, AT&T is way better and have towers. Verizon doesn’t, so it was time for a change. I had been with them a long time, but I had to go with the better of the two.

It is really hit and miss sometimes with coverage. It really does depend on where you spend most of your time and knowing that you will have coverage during that time. My in-laws changed so they could have better coverage when they went camping.

Yep, it all comes down to your perspective on when it’s needed most, that’s for sure.

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.

The theme for Week 3 of the 52-week video challenge was "Show your process of making something." Alas, I didn't get the time to do what I wanted to do, so I attacked something I filmed over the summer that I kept putting off.
