PBC (November 2014): Where the streets have no name

November 28, 2014

Who comes up with these themes?

Oh… right.

Well, I had grand thoughts for this theme myself. And in the end, I failed miserably. So much so that I had to scramble on Thanksgiving Day to finish up some photos. You see, the thoughts I had were fine… but with a packed month and me losing my mind.

Where the streets have no name. Really? What was I thinking?

Still, I actually like what I came up with. I went on a walk with my niece and we came up with some ideas together and i like the direction this all went. That being said, I’d rather not wait until the last second again!

Needless to say, another month is down and I am truly excited to see what people had to come up with for this one. December’s theme will be much easier, I assure you. And I’ve heard from several people who seem like they are ready to join up, so that’s a good thing.

I’m also going to do my best to reach out to some who have participated in the past and see if they might want to join in this month. That theme will be unveiled Monday, so make sure you come back and see. Or watch the Facebook group and I’ll try and remember to update that on time!

Anyway, enough rambling. It’s time for me to share my five images. Let’s see if I can do anything with this one a last-second rush!

1. Snowy Street

Thought the street may have a name, when it’s snowy and such, sometimes it’s easy to miss names with the peacefulness this brings.

IMG_4011

2. Traveling along

The lines of major roads can quickly make you forget the road on which you are traveling.

IMG_4018

3. Stop. Continue.

One way. Or stop? Or both.

IMG_4058

4. Named

The street has a name… but if you aren’t paying attention, you might miss where you need to go with the snow.

IMG_4044

5. Follow the street

You may not know the street you are on, but know a curve is coming.

IMG_4036

That’s my five for the month. And, now it’s your turn.

If you took part this month, make sure you link up below. And for those who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment and visit so we can continue to grow this challenge. Don’t forget, too, to come back and visit on Monday, December 1 and see the theme for December!

NOTE: I set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

It definitely was a different way to look at things. I’d like to do a few more “outside the box” themes!

There’s something about freshly fallen snow that lends itself to great pictures. Nicely done P.J.

Thanks for the challenging theme this month! It’s going to be interesting to see all the different takes – or maybe they won’t be so different, after all.

I think the fact that you had to rush out on Thanksgiving day to finish your photos for the month brought some (perhaps unintended) unity to the five of them – the cold, wet snow. For me, that common element conveyed a sense of time and place and made me wonder what town/city they’re all from. I also like the simplicity of the street signs against the abstract patterns of lines created by the snow-covered branches. As for the “Snowy Street”, the fact that the exterior walls of the first house on each side of the street are white makes for a well-balanced, harmonious image – almost black and white, but not quite. Well done!

I always love to see your interpretations of the themes, Denise. And thanks for the comment on this… I fully agree. I had to put myself into a mode to make things make sense and was happy with the selections I got… though I did have a grander idea originally!

Interesting take on the theme for this month. I enjoyed myself taking photos for this month’s theme. I actually had a hard time narrowing it down to just five for the month and one of them got changed at the last moment due to a song I heard on my phone while biking this morning.

I think my favorite of yours is the top shot. We don’t get snow, so seeing every bit of ground except the road covered in snow is just weird looking.

I’m jealous of that, Paul, in that I didn’t have a choice on narrowing down. Hopefully in future months I get back to that point.

And as much as many of us in the Northeast complain about snow, there’s something about it that makes it magical. For a little while. When we are on month three or four of snow and cold… then it gets quite old fast!

You have great ideas for each one of these! WOW… snow… it makes me so grateful I am looking out at sun and sand. Mind you, it is COLD… but no snow. Phew!

I think my favorite is the second one… the lines… the way you took it… very very nice!

I am supposed to be typing this in NYC. I was so looking forward to seeing a bit of snow, the tree lighting, and all the fun of the big city but my annual trip got canceled yesterday. I’m happy to get a peek of the snow from your area of the state at least. I like how all of them are very monochrome with just a touch of color. But naturally, instead of processed.

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.

The theme for Week 3 of the 52-week video challenge was "Show your process of making something." Alas, I didn't get the time to do what I wanted to do, so I attacked something I filmed over the summer that I kept putting off.
