There are two simple words in our language that, when combined, can be a very powerful statement.
I’m sure there are several sets of two-word combinations that work to be very powerful but the one statement I am thinking of is “thank you.”
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been reminded of this in some situations I have been in.
I’ve always been the type of person who attempts to say thank you when appropriate. I’m sure there are times that I forget as it happens to all of us. But, by and large, I am pretty good at doing it.
Especially if people go out of their way to help me, or pick something up and bring it back for me.
I realize not everybody is brought up in a “please and thank you” setting. Some people also feel they are entitled to things and shouldn’t have to say anything.
But it’s common courtesy.
And it seems like I’ve noticed it more and more lately. Even in customer service sector, where it should be automatic. There are places where you get it way more than necessary, and add in things such as “sir” etc.
Then there are others where you have nothing. Absolutely zero.
That makes me wonder what the heck we will see in the future.
The sad part of all this is saying thank you, or please or something along those lines is something I refer to as a “simple compliment.” What I mean by that is there are small ways that you can, usually, make somebody smile or give that person a good feeling.
Such as using “please.”
Or “thank you.”
Or smiling at somebody who walks by.
Or a simple “hello” to somebody – or telling somebody to have a nice day.
It’s the little things in life that help us get through each day. Think about if there were no manners or anything like this. It would kind of be like working in the world each day with nothing to keep you going. Working a job you loathe, with no way to find some happiness each day.
So keep that in mind next time you have the chance to thank somebody. We’ll all miss chances. But when you have the chance – especially if somebody does something specifically for you and expects nothing back – make sure you use those two magic words.
With that in mind – thank you to all of you who read and comment at my blog. It means more than I can say!

I agree and make it a point of saying thank you or please. It’s the courteous thing to do!
