Ahh, transportation.
You know, the way we all get around. There are so many modes of transportation. Car, train, boat, bus, bike, feet — you name it, there’s transportation.
But when doing a photo challenge, the normal isn’t always what you want to do, right?
So I went with the idea of a more loosely based interpretation of transportation. See, the No. 1 definition of transportation is “an act, process, or instance of transporting or being transported.”
Got it.
I truly am excited to see what kind of things our group has come up with this month. I am sure there are many different ways to do it and with some of the bloggers we have participating, I’m sure it will be fun to see their five photos.
Originally, I was going to do some closeups on things like tires of different types of transportation. Or find still items, such as a bus or a truck. But I also wanted to think outside the box a little bit, which I think and hope I accomplished.
Anyway, on with mine. I hope you enjoy!
1. Taking the ball down the field
I shot a few lacrosse games this month and wanted to use something … so, of course this made sense. The player in gold is trying as much as he can to transport the ball down the field. It’s not always so easy when somebody doesn’t want your form of transportation to get by!
2. Paddling
Boating is a great transportation. However, these fishing boats are still waiting the time when they’ll be used to transport the fishermen back out into the water. (Note: I also took this photo for Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, which is why it has the look it has. Used a digital pinhole lens).
3. Strolling
Is there an older form of transportation than by using one’s feet? I think not. You can do it so many ways, too. Well, what you wear that is. Sneakers, boots, barefoot — whatever. In the summer, I love my sandals. I’ve had this pair for several years. Though they look a tad beat up, I really do love them!
4. Parking
Much of transportation seems to be with a vehicle of sorts. Cars, trucks, etc. But you can’t always be driving, right? So when transporting things, such as yourself or physical objects, consider parking and taking a rest at times. It’s good for you!
5. My car
I like to walk or hike and ride a bike. But I really love my car. It’s a 2005 VW Jetta and it’s been beat all to hell. By me, too, as I leased it when it was new and then bought it. This car has been through some crazy times and many (160,000-plus) miles, seeing many states, two countries and so many back roads, it’s not even funny. It’s treated me well and keeps on rolling. And, it’s a stick shift, which makes it even better.
There’s my five and my interpretation of transportation. I hope you enjoyed.
If you took part this month, make sure you link up below. And for those who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment and visit so we can continue to grow this challenge.
Don’t forget, too, to come back tomorrow and see the theme for May!
NOTE: I also set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.
Feel free to leave a comment, or e-mail P.J. at hoohaablog [at] gmail.com. Also, please “Like” HooHaa Blog on Facebook!
Hi PJ – Nice mix of shots here. I like your broad interpretation of the theme. Makes me consider trying to approach the May theme from a wider angle (ha ha)!

Thanks. I like trying to think outside the box. Always makes it interesting to see if it works.
These are all good photos, but I particularly like the photo of the boats. It’s got a pensive, lonely mood that suits me. Same thing with the shoes, but it’s hard to beat that foggy look, I think.

Oh, I meant to join the fun this month — took a couple of photos, even — but my life got a little crazy last week and I failed to pull to put it together. I suppose I might join in late — very late — if you don’t mind, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to.

The linky thing is up for a couple of more days, so there’s time! Or there’s always May!
I love the pinhole lens, which gives me that look for the boats. Really is quite cool.
I love your approach to this theme, P.J. I had grand plans of thinking outside of the box, but I am ashamed to say I couldn’t make it happen this month. Next month, I’ll be creative as hell. 😉
I’m always so impressed when I see sports photos that capture the movement and are both sharp and in focus, I can never make it happen. Great job! And I love the boats. The stick shift is great, too, believe it or not, but I’ve never actually driven an automatic. 😉
Looking forward to seeing what the theme will be next month!

Thanks, Ziva. Appreciate it.
As for sports shots, it’s kind of my “thing” when it comes to photography. I really love shooting sports.
As never driven an automatic? Wow. If it’s up to me, I never will again until I’m too old to want to have a stick shift!
Wow PJ I went a little off the beaten path but I did so enjoy your post. I am also doing http://shootmytownfriday.blogspot.com and have learned so much. I got some tips from your post. I love the photography challenge.
Monthly is just right.

The link for the shoot my town Friday doesn’t work. Sounds interesting. I’m glad you enjoyed the challenge and hope you stick with us!
I have never seen a Lacrosse game (match). Your photos of them make me want to.

I don’t fully understand lacrosse, but it’s quite fun to watch. And as hard as it is to shoot it (I’d like a larger lens), it makes for some great images.
Very clever approach P.J. I absolutely love the boats pic. Great stuff.

Thank you, sir.
Oops I tried to respond to your comment but it said you’re a “no-reply” blogger. BUT I wanted to tell you THANK YOU and you’re BRILLIANT for the Google Voice advice! I am so incredibly excited to use this. My husband was in awe as well.
It is a lot of fun shooting in manual but I’m extremely slow at it so it will be a work in progress!
Love your pictures of the boats…kind of creepy looking actually!

Glad the Google Voice thing is something you can use and hopefully it helps. And shooting in manual puts you in full charge of your camera. It’ll be fun for you.
Agreed on the boat photo. It’s probably why I like it so much!
Hi PJ,
I’ve linked up. Your first image is my fav ~
Cheers ~

Thanks so much and thanks for taking part!
Nice shots, P.J. The shift reminds me how the first time I borrowed a buddy’s VW, it took me 15 minutes to figure out how to put the thing in reverse! Then I figured out that you have to press DOWN to get it to move. Who knew? Not I.
And those sandals look like they’ve been quite a few places.

I only had a clue when I got the car because a buddy of mine once had a VW and I drove it quite a bit and he told me the first time I drove it about the crazy reverse.
Those sandals have been all over, too. Canada, Ireland, all over in the US and still going strong I love ’em!
I’d forgotten all about that I needed to write the blog by today. Got it done at 9:30 at night my time, still on the 30th, so I’m good to go. Thanks. It was a fun challenge.

It’s all good, Paul! Hope you join us again in May!
I lurve the photo of the boats through the pinhole lens. What an amazing effect. I’m a sucker for any crisp photo of anything captured while in motion ~ kudos on the lacrosse photo.

Thanks, Cheryl! Sports is my thing, so I’m always trying to get better and better at it. Thanks!
I’m a day late, but made it before the linky closed! This is my first time and am looking forward to each month’s challenge…because I have soo much extra time on my hands! NOT! But I am addicted to photo challenges! 🙂

Welcome to the challenge, Lisa. Glad you found us and I look forward to seeing more of your photos!
Some nice shots here. The sandals are a fun shot, but the boats with the fog look are very atmospheric. That one would make a great book cover.

Thanks! The boats with the pinhole lens is probably my favorite of the month, too. I thought about that one all day. Passed it in the AM and when I came back, I knew I had to take that shot!
I do a photo book each year to give to friends and family for Christmas. That shot is definitely a candidate for the cover!
Hi there, visiting from NE Bloggers. 🙂 Great interpretation of the theme. And I especially like the inclusion of the shoes…many of us have become so disconnected from this very human need to move. It’s an important inclusion in your list. I look forward to seeing what’s next.
