This post is written in conjunction with the 30 Days of Writing, a blog challenge devised by Nicky and Mike at “We Work For Cheese.” I’ll be participating throughout the month of June. If interested, you can see my post with the details of the challenge.
Please note that some of these posts will be serious, some will be normal, and some will be an attempt at humor. This one is an attempt at humor!
Ahh, the kitchen.
It can be a great place, or a bad place. It all depends on how you look at it. Cooking, depending on how you do things, can be fun. Especially if you like to take chances.
A few months ago, I blogged about making clam chowder. Errr, chowdah.
I could take that blog post and paste it here and call it a day. Alas, I won’t do that. I don’t think that helps me with this challenge. Instead, I’ll just post a photo of that chowdah. It was thick, too, which is what I liked. I got props from those who had it, too, so that’s good.
With that out of the way, let’s get to the real part of this blog post.
My name is P.J. And I’m a food show addict.
I am finally coming clean.
I’m hoping my story can be something to help future food show addicts. It’s a sickness, I know. And I have to get help.
I can’t go past them when I see them on television.
From Gordon Ramsay to Bobby Flay. From Iron Chef America to Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
The list goes on.
Watching Giada on the Food Network is like a super model making dinner for me — coming through the screen. Sheesh!
I have cheered against people on Chopped. I’ve shed tears at the tough stories people give when trying out for Master Chef. When someone screws up scallops on Hell’s Kitchen, I’m yelling “GET OUT” before it comes out of Ramsay’s mouth. And I wonder when Florian is going to really go off when he bites into a cupcake that “doesn’t work for him.”
Oh, don’t even get me started when Emeril throws some something on the dish he is creating.
BAM!
And damn, Buddy would be hellish cool to work for at Carlo’s Bakery, don’t you think?
I’m still trying to figure out, however, where the hell Adam Richman puts all that food he eats in those challenges. Anyone?
And man — how crazy is it to know people call Robert Irvine to fix their restaurants and then argue with him? Really? Come on, people!
All those succulent dishes these chefs and personalities cook up on my screen. Everything looks so perfect. It’s yummy. When Alton Brown is telling you about everything, he makes it sound so perfect.
The love that the Neelys deliver in their Southern dishes, too. Oh my. Ribs, anyone?
Goodness knows me and trying to bake is like taking a bowling ball and dropping it from the Empire State Building and expecting it to land softly. Yeah, right.
But wow does Ron Ben-Israel make me want to be a Sweet Genius.
All the competitions, too!
My oh my!
I can’t get enough of these shows. Not one bit. I’m an addict. I admit it.
What’s that you say? The secret ingredient is cheese?? Oh my yes.
Allez cuisine!

I was completely addicted to “Top Chef”. I would watch the marathons in reruns. My husband liked it when I watched because it gave me ideas to “perk up” my regular cuisine. I’m a fairly good cook now, but I loved thinking “Wow! The dash of sherry or ginger or cumin just made that work so much better!
That chowder looks amazing by the way! It’s one of my favorites!

One of the best parts of those shows is getting ideas, even if you screw around with them a little! 😀
I do like food to be tasty, but that’s about it. I don’t watch food shows. The only exception to this was Gordon Ramsey’s Celebrity Cook and I only watched one series of that.

I pretty much like anything with Ramsay in it!
I also love all of the cooking shows. I enjoyed several from years ago and then my daughter started watching more and more cooking shows. She is often up late into the night and the channels that air cooking shows are on for her all of the time. The Food Network channel in particular doesn’t air disturbing commercials – thus it is safe for minds in the wee hours.

I honestly used to hate them. Then the reality show types of them drew me in. Now there’s only a few I won’t watch.
When I first discovered the Food Network, I watched it a lot. Sara Moulton, Mario, Ming Tsai, Alton, Bobby Flay, Emeril and Rachael. I know there were more, just don’t remember them all. Oh, there was door-knock dinners and Jamie Oliver. Wow, that takes me back. I learned a lot by watching these chefs. I don’t watch so much anymore. It seems to have changed for being instructional/information to entertainment and competition. Sorry…

While I agree about that with the Food Network, you can still get the other ones on the cooking channel (which, I think, is owned by the Food Network. I like the mixture on the Food Network.
Oddly, as little as I like to cook myself, I enjoy a lot of the cooking shows, too. Go figure. There used to be one on Lifetime where these three women would go to some viewer’s home and show her how to make her favorite dishes with low-cal substitutes. I found it fascinating.
I never saw that show, but it sounds like it would have been fun to watch.
“THERE RAW”. Seriously, if you can’t cook a damn scallop, don’t go on “Hell’s Kitchen”. I too my brother am adicted to these shows, it must be in the genes.
Or risotto. That seems to be the other thing they need to know how to cook.
I just haven’t come across a new and fascinating way to do hot dogs on those shows. Oh, well, back to the microwave.

There are so many ways to cook hot dogs. I’m a hot dog nut (always in search of the perfect dog — and always search for hot dog joints when I travel). Especially with that fresh kitchen you have… experiment! 😉

I love cooking, and cooking shows. When my teenagers were younger, they would actually ask me to switch to The Food Network instead of cartoons! 250 points for being a fellow foodaphile! 🙂

Excellent that they wanted the Food Network than cartoons. In the future, they’ll hopefully be making some culinary delights!
I’m pretty sure MasterChef is the most watched show on television in Australia at the moment. I don’t really see it to be honest 😛

If Master Chef over there is as good as it is here, I can see why it’s popular. I love the show!

OK, so two things. First, what did you think when Bobby Flay stood on the cutting board! “He is no chef!”
AND!
I can’t name names. BUT. I know someone very well whose spouse works off and on with Paula Deen. I have heard some TERRIFIC stories, good and bad. I oh so wish I could share!

Oooooh, you got a good scoop and can’t share? Booo! 😀
Man, I love me some chowder…uh…chowdah! It’s been awhile actually. Like, real East Coast stuff. You’ve got me craving it!
A perfect day for me might include chowdah, steak and poutine.
Man. That would rock.
I watch some of the cooking shows as well… I am guessing that you have the recipe for your yummy looking chowder in another post? I am pressed for time now, but will be back to look for it!
