I feel like I say this every year — but holy cow, one month is already down in 2026?
It sure is.
And I am not sure how it is in your neck of the woods, but we’ve had a winter to remember in January, as well as December. I had personally predicted we were going to get one of our traditional winters and it sure seems like it is. We will see how February goes.
I guess I should have made this month making your month black and white or dreary!

Alas, having some color this time of the year is always a good thing. And I found it where I could.
Did you have a lot of color in your month?
Each of our monthly challenges for 2026 will have something to do with making your month something or other. That might even change the traditional theme we do during March.
And that’s OK. Sometimes we need change and to embrace it.
But color is something for January.
I hope you experienced something colorful and your year has started off well. It’s a crazy world out there and hopefully this challenge allows you to breathe some and see something good.
If you participated this month, share your link down below. Here’s my five for the month!
1. Nature in action
A New Year’s Day hike at a local state park to do some geocaching and this was overlooking the lake. The sky was rich with blue and it was wonderful to see, even though it was cold as could be!

2. One final night
This was the last night of Christmas decorations this year. The next day we took it all down. If you celebrate and have decorations, when did you take them down this year? For here, it was January 11 this year.

3. Snow
We got blasted with snow toward the end of the month. Harper loves the snow. This was the snow that came before the big storm, and I had left Harper’s outdoor toys uncovered. I liked the portrait mode in this photo as Harper approached her cube. (For the big storm, I picked up everything so we could still use it and not have to dig to find everything)!

4. Hand and paw prints
I will have a full post coming on this. But me, my mother and Harper had this done in New Jersey at the end of the year. The final product came this month. Again, I’ll have a full post (I have a lot of photos during the process) about this and the experience. Great colors!

5. Board games
I’m trying to play more board games in 2026, especially solo ones. This is one of a couple I played this month. I really enjoyed this one and it definitely is colorful.

BONUS
I didn’t take this one, of course. But it is rather colorful and was a fun photo!

There’s my five for the month! Let’s see what you came up with! If you took part in this month’s challenge, make sure to link up below.
And for those of you who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment (here, too!).
Let’s continue to grow this challenge and have a strong community. Come back and check out the others who link later on, too! NOTE: We have a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully ithere.
** CHALLENGE CHANGE **
From this point forward, I am going to do the next theme at the bottom of each linkup. Also, the posting date will now be the first of each month, thus giving you the entire month to take the photos etc.
That means it’s a one-stop shop! Hopefully this helps out with everybody.
So, below is the linkup for January. Make sure you drop your link there.
OK, so it’s time to keep on moving! And our theme for the month? Make your month loving. Have some fun! Remember to come back on (hopefully) March 1 to link up and check out the theme for that month! I’ve set a calendar reminder for me, so let’s see if that works!

I’m glad you didn’t go with “make your month black or white or dreary.” Mother Nature does a fine job with those themes all on her own and I wouldn’t have wanted to pile on!
Some fun ones here. I had to look back through my journal to confirm we took our Christmas decorations down on January 3rd. That’s a little early, but the house need cleaning and I didn’t want to clean everything and then have to do part of it again a handful of days later when the tree came down. Maybe that’s too practical? Or lazy? Regardless, I continued to enjoy outdoor lights in our neighbourhood until we left on our month-long trip in late January.
We’ve had snow, then long stretches without, then snow, and then another long stretch without. March seems to be the month we’re going to experience snow, snow and more snow. That certainly makes the skiers happy. And it’s good for the trees and plants, so I’m happy to wait to have the snow tires come off the car.
