Photo Blogging Challenge (June 2021): DIY

July 1, 2021

Note: Please make sure you see the end of this post for the new way of doing things. It’s only one small change we made in November, but a change nonetheless. Thanks!

To say that my world has been busy would be an understatement.

But, it’s mostly for good reasons! And with that, I can’t be upset. If any of you follow me on Instagram, you’ve likely seen the photos I’ve posted of a puppy. By the end of this week, she’ll be here and a whole new adventure will be starting. There’s so much more going on in my world and I’m excited about it all. I’ve always started writing some blog posts offline, so hopefully everything that is changing will help me get back into this on a more regular basis.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PBC2.jpg

Outside of that, it’s been an interesting month. We’ve had cold days and super hot days. Work has been a bear, as it is during this time every year. and it will keep me busy into the first couple weeks of the summer, and then it’s gearing up for the fall. Working in education can be quite crazy for anybody, but in my position, I have certain times that go into uber crazy mode — this is pretty much one of them. Then add to it some other things going on and I’m all over the place. I’m tired, that’s for sure, but I’m pretty excited where things are going and the direction of everything. I’m not saying everything is perfect by any stretch, but overall I can’t complain. And that is a good thing. I’ll keep plugging along and seeing where things go and hopefully I’ll be able to keep smiling!

And now, we slowly start to head into the summer months. It seems, at least in my part of the world, things are easing up. I’m still on guard, so to speak, but it’s nice to see smiles again and see people doing things. I hope, however, you all remain safe and diligent in doing your part so we can keep moving forward.

Now … let’s get to the photos! It was a DIY sort of month and here’s what I had for my five!

1-2. Building

Cameron stayed over one weekend and Legos (as well as Nerf wars) were on the docket. This kid is really quite good with Legos and building. We had to abandon one set as it was just a bit too much, but we attacked another one and he did an amazing job!

3. Being a DIYer

I’m trying to learn new things, including some woodworking. This was a setup one weekend. Stay tuned to the end of this post for some bonus photos!

4. Learning

I now own some pretty decent power tools as I learn more. This is my friend Darren showing me a bit about the circular saw. Reality is, I never needed to use a lot of these items. But I’m not doing my best to learn them as I found it’s quite enjoyable to do some DIY stuff.

5. Leftover

From the project that day, this is some of the leftover small pieces. I thought it was kind of cool looking!

BONUS PHOTOS!

So, what did we create that day? A couple of benches! Here are the end products! I learned quite a bit that day, and look forward to learning a lot more and creating more. Now these lumber prices need to come down!

And there are my five (plus bonuses) for the month!

If you took part in this month’s challenge, make sure to link up below.

And for those of you who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment (here, too!).

Let’s continue to grow this challenge and have a strong community. Come back and check out the others who link later on, too! NOTE: We have a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

** CHALLENGE CHANGE **

From this point forward, I am going to do the next theme at the bottom of each linkup. Also, the posting date will now be the first of each month, thus giving you the entire month to take the photos etc.

That means it’s a one-stop shop! Hopefully this helps out with everybody.

So, below is the linkup for June. Make sure you drop your link there. The theme for July is Happy! … Remember to come back on August 1 to link up and check out the theme for that month!

Well, aren’t you crafty with your DIY bench and table! They look awesome! Congrats on learning a new skill and how to play with power tools! Cameron is always adorable and going to break quite a few hearts in the years to come. I thought for sure July’s theme would be Pets in honor of your new addition. Maybe August……..Can’t wait to see many more pics of your new fur baby on Instagram.

Looking forward to an easier for me theme of “Happy”.

I’ve never been much for woodworking as I tend to not have the patience needed nor the proper tools. I picked up some lumber yesterday to attempt an enclosure to hide/protect my pool equipment. Thanks for keeping us going with these challenges!

I’m glad somebody posted Lego this month, ’cause I kinda dropped the ball on that! Hoping to bring Lego back into the mix in July.

As for the tools and DIY construction projects, fantastic! Mr GeoK took construction and shop classes all through high school, so he’s got every kind of saw, grinder, drill and other pieces of equipment you could imagine. He says as long as you measure twice and cut once, it’s usually a very rewarding activity. I thought of you and that bench on my walk this morning. Someone has built a very similar bench and set it out beside the Three Sisters Creek pond. I’ll post a photo on Facebook for the group to see.

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.

The theme for Week 3 of the 52-week video challenge was "Show your process of making something." Alas, I didn't get the time to do what I wanted to do, so I attacked something I filmed over the summer that I kept putting off.
