BWF: Youthful comfort

May 11, 2020

Comfort foods.

What does it mean for you? What is that item you can turn to on a cold winter day? Or a rainy spring day? Or in a time when we’re all shuttered up, at least to an extent?

What’s that one item?

In situations like this, or times like this … it’s easy for me. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And why? Because it can bring me back to childhood. A time when things seemed easier and more innocent. The cares in the world weren’t as bad. You didn’t worry about much and this was often the lunch of choice.

That’s the way to be.

Since this whole thing started a few months ago, I’ve had several PB&Js. And I’ve enjoyed each one.

Believe me — there’s a lot I could eat on a day where it’s eat what you want Pizza. Bacon. Steak. Potatoes. Maybe breakfast.

So much.

But I feel if this is something in a time we’re at … this is the way to go. Good preserves. Usually creamy peanut butter. On white bread.

Need some help? Allow me to give you my recipe!

  • Two slices of white bread
  • Creamy peanut butter
  • Strawberry or blueberry preserves
  • A butter knife

Put the two pieces of bread out. Take the knife and load it up with peanut butter. Put that on one slide of bread. Clean off knife on other side of bread. Put the preserves on the other slice of bread. When done, lick the knife clean. Seriously … you don’t do that? Put the two pieces of bread together and take a big bite.

Serve with a cold glass of milk to really make it perfect.

How about any of you? Meal of the day if you can have anything for one day? Any reason?

Close, but being from New England, it’ll be a Fluffernutter, just replace that jelly with marshmallow fluff and you’re good to go (back to my youth).

I can totally get how this gives you comfort.

Having grown up in Switzerland I didn’t know about PBJ sandwiches until later in life. I do like it from time to time now. My favorite is grape jelly.

Did you see the instruction video for PBJ sandwiches? Two kids are supposed to tell their Dad how exactly to make it, it turned out so funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct-lOOUqmyY

Since my doctor no longer allows pb&j, I”ll have to pass on this one. BUT I’ve eaten a many of pb&j in my time. For me comfort is biscuits or homemade soup. When we were cold, sick or life was just not working the way we thought, my mother or grandmother would make homemade buttermilk biscuits. It solved everything.

I really love a good bacon cheeseburger. Seems so basic, but there’s something about that grilled smell and taste that feels like home! And a good pb&J – with extra PB? YUM!

Harper got her first foul ball (as you can see she enjoyed!) and we also had the chance to grab a couple others and give them to some other dogs. All in all, four dogs walked away with balls!

I rarely sit on a window seat when flying, but both flights today had open spots, so two of us could comfortably be in a three-seat row. Sat next to the window to do some photos/video and got some nice shots. Flying still amazes me. @SouthwestAir #Southwest #Flying #Airplane

I hate being in front of the camera, but also realize sometimes it's not the worst thing in the world. So, I'm getting better with it. Week 4's theme was all about us and having us in front of the camera, so I tried to come up with a creative way to do it.

The theme for Week 3 of the 52-week video challenge was "Show your process of making something." Alas, I didn't get the time to do what I wanted to do, so I attacked something I filmed over the summer that I kept putting off.
