Photo Blogging Challenge (June 2019): Get out and play

June 30, 2019

It seems when these themes are announced, I have such grand plans.

This month didn’t work out as planned!

During this time of the year, my work is pretty packed. So much to do, and so little time. That usually means working well beyond my normal hours. That proved to be the same this year.

That meant, I didn’t get outside and do a lot of “play” things. I did hit up some baseball games, but I haven’t taken a lot of photos at games this year.

Alas, we must go with what we have and find a way to shape the story we give, right?

My interpretation this month was simple – things I took while out on walks or hikes. Though both of these activities are with exercise and health in mind, the reality is it’s a bit of play, too. It’s nice to get outside and see things. When hiking, a lot of times it’s for geocaching when I do it, so that’s also play.

So, let’s get underway with this month! My five are below!

1. The view

Earlier in June, I hosted a geocaching event that was about a half-mile hike. This is one of the views on the way out.

2. Old can

After the event, I had the chance to do some caching. One spot was a cache I had found before (alas, we couldn’t find it this time), but on the way up the side of a hill, I found this. Always interesting to me to see old cans and bottles out like this.

3. So many signs

This is right near a trail where we were hiking for caches. I guess we should stay out of this area?

4. Closed

This is the municipal parking lot in my town. Down on the right is a small park (yes, I have a cache here) and a basketball court. The lot, court and other areas have been under construction. So, for now, there’s no play down that way!

5. Ball field

As out for a walk this month, I saw this carved out baseball field at a local spot. Note, there are regular ball fields here already, but I have a feeling this may have been for a practice or something of a local old-time baseball team.

If you took part in this month’s challenge, make sure to link up below.

And for those of you who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment (here, too!).

Let’s continue to grow this challenge and have a strong community. Come back and check out the others who link later on, too!

NOTE: I set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

While the vintage Pepsi can looks kinda cool, it annoys me that people just throw their sh** on the floor. What’s wrong with them?
Are there any CITO events in your area? (Cache In Trash Out)

Did you get some rain in your region, everything looks so fresh and green (not the closed road though, haha)

I despise trashy people. It really makes me mad to see people with such disregard that they trash the beaches, roads and waterways.

Good interpretation of the theme. Yes, I’m back with a new blog.

Your third shot reminds me of the time I had to help my sister-in-law get a geocache archived. Someone had hidden the cache in a wildlife study area owned by her university in Wisconsin. I helped her set up a geocaching account and she then posted a “Needs Archiving” log on the cache in question. It got shut down pretty quickly after thet.

I love that first shot. I could spend all day there! How long do you think that can had been there? I’m with the others in that it makes me sad when people just throw their trash away in nature areas. I also like your “field of dreams” shot. I can just imagine an old-time baseball game there.

No surprise that baseball and geocaching made it into your post. Congratulations on hosting another geocaching event. We haven’t done that for several years…definitely something to think about.

I have been doing my best to catch up on my blog hopping through others’ PBC posts. June is as far back as I’m going at this point (I think I was pretty good about it earlier in the year). I have had some trouble opening the list of link ups for July and June, so if I’ve missed someone, that’s why. And I resolve to do better at keeping current going forward.

Well when getting out to play, those two have to make it into the posts!

[…] Well, June came and went rather suddenly, didn’t it? We seemed to be busy all the time so this month’s photo challenge wasn’t too hard. This monthly challenge is hosted by PJ over at A ‘lil Hooha and he has an updated meme logo. Pretty spiffy. He selected Get Out and Play for the June theme. […]

I also guess this is why hitting back roads to work is good -- you can stop and take a photo and not worry about anybody coming (usually)! Main roads around here are fine for now, but it's definitely quite picturesque on the lawns/trees etc.

When I covered MiLB years ago for a small daily, managers sometimes wanted my opinion or asked me to talk to the scorekeeper about changing a ruling. There should be a happy medium somewhere now being most or all teams have video/TV. That wasn’t the case with the team I covered.

Another change to the minors is in store this year.

MLB informed minor league teams they will not be allowed to appeal rulings made by official scorers this year.

@jjcoop36 explains why:

I mean, if you hold a #Wrestlemania in an open stadium... eventually rain delays had to come, right? 🤣
