September 30, 2017.
It was on that day that I had my last true “candy bar.” This, of course, is for health reasons. And over the Christmas holiday, I did have a few small pieces of candy.
But it’s been since September 30 since I had anything such as .. a Reese’s. Or a Snickers. Or a … oh goodness, it sounds good!
Halloween came and went and I didn’t touch even the mini candy bars.
I’ve been in stores and have seen a Reese’s peanut butter cup and I’ve thought about it, and passed.
A funny thing when it comes to doing something like this – the longer you go, the more you don’t miss these items. I know they are bad for me and until my health gets way better, I needs to stick with this. So knowing I don’t see something and want to dive in is a good thing.
It has been hard at times, though.
When it comes to “junk food,” I tend to lean toward something more like chips, pretzels etc. But there are certain candy bars that I love – Reese’s, M&Ms, Twix … maybe one or two others. Those are my favorites, though, and I haven’t even given myself a “success” treat as I’m worried if I crunch into one, it might be a downward spiral.
That being said, I don’t think this is a permanent breakup from candy bars. As I continue my path of better and healthier habits, I’m sure I will have a treat here and there. It will probably be a while though, as I know I have been way better without these in my diet.
In the past, I’ve done this with soda. In fact, I’ve done it several times. And each time, I get better and better with the aftermath. Basically, now, I’m down to about one (diet) soda per week. I’ve found that my body appreciates the fact that I am more into water and the diet (or Crystal Light) iced teas.
This whole journey of making myself healthier isn’t something that is done in a day, a week, month, or even a year. It’s a lifetime and I know I just have to keep improving and doing the right thing.
And if that means without candy bars, I’m OK with it.

Wow, congratulations, so proud of you!
I have done a similar thing for nine out of the 12 months in 2017, and while I didn’t completely do without sweets (I’m more into cake than candy), I can certainly relate to the thought of “it’s so much better for my health, but it can’t be a breakup forever now, can it?”
Keep up the great work, Mr HooHaa!
no candy bars, that’s sad but it’s good to eat healthier. I also try not to eat too many junk food. but they taste so good…but anyway, I hope you success in curing yourself of candy bars and soda.
have a lovely day.

Congratulations on getting healthier! Some habits are tough and we must control the urges and not let them control us. We all have our weaknesses.
