I just got back from the shop. One thing I’m going to say about Geico and Volkswagen — they react quick and do some fine work.
Let’s recall I hit the deer at around 12:15 a.m. By 2 p.m., I was in a rental and the insurance adjuster will be at the VW dealer within the next 48 hours.
OK, so let’s peek at some of the damage on my car. First, an overall look at things and where the major damage is etc.
Just for the fun of it, let’s take a look at some other parts of this bad boy:
(this one is from my photo blog from today):
This one shows the a closeup of the passenger side where the majority of the damage was done. Note the piece of hide that stuck with it.
A different view of that passenger side:
So, my car is now gone for several weeks. Remember, this is a VW, so things are gonna be crazy to fix. The initial thought of the VW guy was $5,000-$7,000 in damage. That light is probably $1,000 on its own! Anyway, I’m hoping to hear something in the next few days to see where we’re going with this. The VW guy said he’ll be sending it to their custom shop as they do excellent work and this is a major fixing. Also, they’ll have to see if there is any damage underneath the car etc.
So, in the meantime, VW has given me a rental (thankfully covered under my insurance for up to 30 days). THIS is where it gets real bad. Why?
Because I have to drive around in this:
Ugh, a bug. I will say this — lots of foot room. And I’ll call VW back next week. The guy said the Rabbit they rent might be back. So if I can switch, I will. For now, it’s punch buggy for me. At least it’s not like lime green or some crazy color like that.
There’s the tale. I’m sure there will be much more as this goes on. At least it gives me something to write about!
