I wasn’t having much luck today with the covers. I got two or three started but couldn’t flow. So I did some research on some other jobs and then turned my attention to our upcoming family reunion for a bit.
I set out last fall to try and get a family get together this summer in my area. It’s a great spot and it would be nice to get the family together. I’m aiming to bring both sides of my family together. One thing my father always liked was when the family got together. I wish we had gotten the chance to do it a bit more when he was still alive.
So, I set it as a goal to try and put together a big gathering.
A date is set and I started working on a FAQ sheet. Basically, an information-filled file that will have stuff about hotels, places to eat, the reunion, things to do etc.
I sent a text to a person in the city rec department to ask about one of the pavilions I wanted to rent for the day. It was still open for the date, however, someone had come in and rented the smaller pavilion for the same day.
I didn’t want to take any other chances. Though I was thinking about heading over that way Wednesday, I didn’t want to take the chance with snow in the forecast. So, I headed over, paid the fee and locked it up.
Then I stopped to chat with my brother and his favorite dudette (inside joke, sorry!) as she is the pavilion keeper as she’s a city resident. Once he got home, we threw some ideas around about the reunion and such.
Between now and Aug. 13, there’s a lot to do. I want to figure out the food situation, games, activities, drink etc. It’ll all come together as choosing the date and getting the pavilion was the first big step. I talked to one place about some food today and I’m looking to talk to another. Hopefully between them, we can get good food for the event.
I’m excited for the event as I’ve heard a lot of positive feedback and I know a bunch of the family is getting together for this. I can’t wait and hope this becomes an annual event.
If anyone has planned these events, any ideas for what we can do would be appreciated!
I’m hoping to put up a small website/blog tonight for the event, so that’s the next step!
