There are times when a month gets away from you, that’s for sure.
October was one of them. I had plans for something else to be posted today (those coming for the giveaway … my apologies – that will be Wednesday now), and then had a slap on the head and realized it was October 31! That meant the Photo Blogging Challenge!
This should have been done a long time ago and scheduled. I had the photos I wanted a long time back. My only issue was bringing it down to five as I had a bunch I wanted to use!
Alas, I found a pretty good mix of photos and I think I have it covered pretty well. Water is one that can really be interpreted in different ways, so I’ll look forward to getting time to visit everybody’s posts to see what they came up with.
Anyway, allow me to move this forward. I hope everybody has a great Halloween!
Here are my five photos for this month!
1. If everybody had an ocean …
When visiting the Jersey Shore earlier this month, people were out surfing. Originally, I was going to make this a major part of the challenge, but decided to pair it back to one or two photos. This one beat out another photo I wanted to use… but there was just something about this image I really liked.

End of the day.
2. … surfin’ USA!
Of the action shots I snapped with surfing, this was one of my favorites. Surf’s up, dude!

Take on the wave
3. Flushing the hydrants
Leaving work one day, I saw this and though … this is perfect!

Flushing.
4. Butterfly stroke
Went to a swim meet for some family and … well, here’s Emily winning her event.

The competition.
5. Thirsty!
Cameron returns to the challenge this month. He was at a soccer camp for tykes and needed a drink of some refreshing H2O!

Mmmm … water!
There are my five and I look forward to seeing what others had this month!

Loving your water photos! Very good indeed!
Thank you so much!
Wonderful shots, especially love the surf pictures!
I have never seen a fire hydrant “in action” – how come yours was?
Happy Halloween!

Thank you so much! I love the surfing setup, though just wish I had a spot with better waves to really pick up some cool shot! The fire hydrants need to be flushed out, I think, once a year just to make sure everything is working right etc. They have to make sure the pressure/flow etc. is working right.
I think my favorite is ” Flushing the hydrants” because I love seeing water in motion.
I do love capturing water like that when possible. It almost looks like ice!
Awesome watery selections! I do like the first shot and think you titled it perfectly. The capture of Emily’s butterfly stroke is really fantastic. Hope Cameron has a spooktacular Halloween!
Thanks so much, Lisa! This was definitely a fun month’s theme and there’s still something about that first photo that really seems to tell a story!
Great photos!
The hydrant is my favorite find.
I had a similar “wait! That’s perfect!” moment walking by a water sculpture in Chinatown in Boston earlier this month.
The hydrant was interesting that I drove past, thought about it, turned around and then took the photo from my car. I figured at worst, I don’t use it! Didn’t want to miss the chance though!
Holy cow you have outdone yourself! You KNOW I love the surfing ones…. but all of the are excellent. The crystal appearance of the fire hydrant photo is pretty amazing!
Thank you so much, Katherine! It’s the one thing I look for whenever I go to the shore (and I might have the chance to get back there next weekend for a day and a half or so …) because it’s so interesting. Would love to find bigger waves to get cooler shots, though!
Your photos are great.. I like the first photo with surfer on the beach, and the photo of the fire hydrant is particularly appealing. I do plan on linking up again this coming month.
I am glad others liked that first photo, too. There’s just something about it that made me really like the setup. Thanks for stopping by!
I can’t choose a favorite! How serendipitous that the hydrant was open when you got off work!
I agree! Seemed perfect and it was such a beautiful day out, too!
What excellent photos! In the first photo, the location of the three birds relative the surfer makes for a very interesting shot. I love the lines in the “Butterfly” photo. The really draw you in.
Thanks so much for the comments. And I am glad to see that choosing that first photo has worked out well. There’s really something about it. Even the water on the left side of it as he walks away.
I’m loving all the action shots. Great stuff once again. Thanks for hosting this project, too.

Glad you keep enjoying and taking part in this challenge! Thanks for the comments!
Every month I look forward to your sports action shots! They are always so beautifully composed, focused on just the right spot and perfectly sharp…a source of both inspiration and aspiration. That first surfing photo that you selected…you couldn’t have asked those seagulls to arrange themselves any better to both frame the image and draw the eye to the surfer. Just excellent! Your extended family must clamor for your photos of their children in action.
Thanks for continuing to host the monthly PBC. It’s great to see participation slowly creeping up. 🙂
Thank you! I have always had the passion for sports photos. It takes time and I’m still amazed at how many “throw away” shots I have to get a few I like. I’m glad you continue to take part in the monthly challenge as I enjoy looking at your photos just as much!
