A Day Zero Project goal of P.J.’s has been completed!
Goal completed: No fast food for a month.
Date completed: Feb. 28, 2011.
Number: 11 (remember, these goals will not all be done in order. It’s a random list where the numbers actually are).
Description: I’ve never been one of those people who has eaten a ton of fast food, but I want to wipe it out of my diet as much as possible. So, I decided I’d do it for a month. This includes the major chains for fast food — Burger Kind, McD’s, Arby’s, Wendy’s, Long John Silver, Taco Bell etc. This doesn’t include places like Quizno’s and Subway etc.
Why I wanted to do it: Why not? Have you seen some of the calorie counts for some of this food? Ouch! An example is Wendy’s double with everything and cheese. It’s ranked No. 14 on the Worst Burgers list via Eat This, Not That on Men’s Health. What’s it have? 700 calories. 40 grams of fat. 1,440 mg of sodium! WOW!
It gets worse.
No. 3 on that list is Burger King’s Triple Whopper with cheese and mayo. How about these numbers … 1,250 calories, 84 grams of fat and 1,600 mg of sodium.
Yeah, no thanks.
How I did it: I actually have it in my mind that I want to do this for a few months, if not longer. The only thing I sometimes miss is a trip to Arby’s or Taco Bell. The other places, I don’t miss … though some of the stuff is so tasty (McD’s fries). I just stopped going to these places. Grabbed a salad at Quizno’s. Went to a diner or something instead. Tried to find healthier options. I actually started this in mid-January, but started “counting” in February. I’ll keep it going as long as I can, however.
About P.J.’s Day Zero Project: Day Zero is a project where people come up with 101 things to do over 1001 days. I started the project on Oct. 10, 2010 with an anticipated finish date of July 8, 2013. Goals will not be revealed until they are completed. A private list is at the Day Zero website and the list will be made public upon completion of the project. It’s my thoughts that if things are kept private, should I not do them, change or find a way around it, I’d only be cheating myself.
Good! 🙂 Fast food is quick and easy, but it’s wasted calories with absolutely no nutritional value. 😛 Sometimes on Friday evenings I enjoy a Club sandwich and fries from the local takeout, but that’s not often… Eating healthy homemade food is better. 🙂 Keep it up!!
Great job! i just challenged myself to a week… but a month is freaking awesome!
Erika — the goal was a month… I’ve been at it for about a month and a half and plan on continuing. I just don’t miss that stuff!
Good for you, P.J.! Some of that fast food really is awful. (Not that I’m pointing fingers – I’ve eaten my fair share of it! But it’s so nice *not* to eat it.) Isn’t it funny how when you cut something like that out it kills you at first and then you don’t even miss it? I’m trying to rid this household of white flour. I’ll let you know how it goes.
