I don’t know about all of you, but July has been a hot one in my area — and when I am on my travels!
And honestly, me and heat don’t mix too well. I’m not a fan of the humidity, anyway. I can deal with heat to a point — but when it gets hot, humid, and sticky? Not so much. It also means I don’t necessarily want to go outside so much, which makes me happy that the theme this month was Photographer’s Choice. That way, it’s a tad more open for me to fill in the blanks.
Believe me — I basically could have made this post Baseball: Round 2. Alas, I decided against that.
These type of themes, which I’ve done a few times in the year’s I’ve run this challenge, are usually fun. It gives people a chance to take photos of things they enjoy and share different things. So I’m looking forward to this month’s submissions.
For me, I did a few things I love, but one photo I went way outside my comfort zone and did some “street photography.” I have a hard time in situations like these because I feel like I am going into situations that should be more private. However, in this situation, I had my doubts as to the truthfulness of this person. First, his dress. Second, when we walked past him a second time, he had walked away from his spot to have a smoke — and was on a phone. The phone looked like a smart phone. Let’s just say I had my doubts on things, so I didn’t feel bad taking this image. Plus, public area, so …
Overall I enjoyed this month’s photo challenge and it will be fun to see how others tackled the theme.
Anyway, without any more commentary, here are my five for the month. Please make sure you stop back here in a day or so and check out all the other links to go visit others and hopefully comment!
1. Round and Round
On a trip to New Hampshire/Maine to visit some friends, I forgot the top part of my tripod. So, to get this long-exposure shot, I had to utilize a lifeguard stand and try and stay as still as possible. I’m happy in how it came out.
2. Warmups
At a game in Lehigh Valley, we had seats just in front of the bullpen. It made for some pretty cool photo chances, but I liked this image before anybody even got there — just a few baseballs and the rosin bag on the mound.
3. Slide!
Here’s Cameron’s monthly appearance. I met up with Cam and his folks during a Fourth of July Celebration in a neighboring town and he was on the playground, having a blast as usual.
4. Fireworks
For one of the local fireworks displays, I actually went with the tripod and remote to try and capture the shots. I was happy with how this one came out.
5. Street life
I explained this one a little above, and I’ll let the photo speak for itself.
There are my five and I look forward to seeing what others had this month!

Cameron looks as though he is having a great time, I think though it is the baseballs which are my favourite.
He usually does have a great time! The life of those his age!
I am so with you on the humidity! It kills me to get out of the shower, put on clean clothes and in a matter of seconds, boom, sweating like a pig. Bring on the cooler days!
LOVE your fireworks picture! Well done! The ferris wheel turned out nice, too, and of course your cute nephew (see, I’m learning!) This “homeless” guy does look a bit too well groomed, so it may be his business model. I hear they make quite some dough.
Thanks for hosting another round of great posts!

Humidity is awful, that’s for sure!
Thanks for the comments on the photos. Fireworks are a lot of fun, for sure. So hard to capture at times, though!
Love all your shots but especially the amusement park – came out really well. I know what you mean about street shots but I’m getting better as the years go on. And can you please send some warmth to the north of Scotland as our summer has been atrocious.
Street shots are tough. I don’t always feel comfortable taking shots of other people when it’s in an odd setting. The problem is they make some of the best photos!
Great photos but I especially love the photo of the fireworks!

Thanks so much!
All are great but the ferris wheel is my favorite!

Wow, that ferris wheel and fireworks shot are amazing! Great job with the exposures. I enjoyed all your photos. Street Life is always a sad story. It makes one wonder what happened that caused such a twist of fate.
Thanks so much! This was definitely a fun month for the challenge.
Your ferris wheel shot is my favorite. I like pictures that play with the light exposure. I try but have been unsuccessful at consistently doing that with my own pics.
I think the biggest tip about the long exposure is having a tripod or something to keep the camera steady when you open the shutter!
I dropped the ball on last month’s challenge. I could do a bunch of baseball-themed posts. That ferris wheel is beautiful. I love seeing how different companies light theirs up.
Capturing fireworks is tricky, but you did a fantastic job!

Sometimes the challenge can be hard if you forget, that’s for sure! The best part is there’s always the next month! Thanks for the comments!
I think what I like best about your whole set of photos is that there’s a summer vibe throughout…a sense of the carefree that makes me remember my childhood summers and the way they seemed to go on and on forever. Thanks!
It’s a great way to look at the summer, isn’t it? Care free and just going with the flow. It’s how all summers should be! 😀
All your photos are great and I love the psychedelic swirls in the big wheel. The firework shot is superb and so well composed.
The homeless man (your last shot) could be representing the first stage of ‘on the street’ homelessness, before they fall into that state of no return due the accumulation of health problems caused by ‘sleeping rough’. I just hope that the man gets help before it gets harder.
Thanks so much for the comments.

Thanks! I always like the long-exposure shots like that, too!
