Photo Blogging Challenge (May 2016): Outside the box

May 31, 2016

You would think when I set these challenges up, I would make themes that I figured I’d be all set up to do.

It doesn’t always work out that way, though.

This month, I had some ideas. But with so many things going on, I didn’t get all that I wanted. Still, the theme is intriguing and I am excited to see what others have come up with.

Outside the box can be interpreted so many ways. It can be literal. It can be something totally different. I did a little bit of everything with my photos this month.

Did you think outside the box? I hope so!

Anyway, it’s time to get into it. My selections are below. Remember to link up at the bottom and visit others and hopefully comment!

1. Patience

How many 2 1/2 year olds do you know who show patience? This was from earlier in the month where Cameron was waiting to get some M&Ms. I don’t know about you, but I’d probably have been jumping through the roof for these. So, patience seems to be some outside-the-box thinking here!

2. Geocache

Many geocaches are boxes of some sort. With that in mind, there are usually contents inside the box. So here’s a future geocache that I will be placing — with contents outside the box!

3. Virtual 5K

In this day and age, sometimes people have to think outside the box to get exercise. I have joined a few virtual races — of which I walk, not run (maybe at some point I will run them) — and this was the first “prize” that I have received. It’s really a cool way to get people to get out and exercise and part of the entry fee goes to some good charities.

4. Selfie

I’m not one for selfies. But at a game one night, I decided to try a different type of selfie — my hand keeping score. This wasn’t easy using my DSLR, either!

A different type of selfie!

5. Smiling

For whatever reason, when I’m taking photos of Cameron, I rarely get great smiles. One night, though, I went and delivered some clothes I got for him (Phillies, of course) and after he got the sweatshirt and hat on I asked him for a smile — and he obliged! Talk about going outside the box!

All smiles!

There are my five and I look forward to seeing what others had this month!

If you took part in this month’s challenge, make sure to link up below. And for those of you who participated, make sure you try and get to other people’s blogs and comment (here, too!). Let’s continue to grow this challenge and have a strong community. Come back and check out the others who link later on, too!

Also, don’t forget to get back here tomorrow, June 1, for the June theme!

NOTE: I set up a Facebook group for those who participate in the challenge and are interested. I’ll post any announcements there and hopefully it can be a place where things are discussed and some interaction etc. You can access it here.

I love all your photos but particularly the selfie of your hand – I’m a big fan of selfies so think this is a great one, and I love the idea of a virtual 5k which I must investigate. Really pleased to be taking part in this challenge.

Welcome to the challenge! Thanks for the comments. The hand shot was a little hard with the DSLR and all and trying to balance. 😉

OK, so I’m totally gonna imply something here: you bribed Cameron with M&Ms so he’ll give you a smile..!
Don’t listen to me, just being silly.

We used to do Geocaching, too. The variety of boxes was always interesting, let alone the hiding spots at beautiful locations. I even had the honor of visiting Groundspeak HQs in Seattle a couple of years ago.

Thanks for a great theme – I’ll be back next month!

It’s highly possible the M&Ms helped force a smile. If that’s how it works, I’m OK with it! 😀

Geocaching is a lot of fun. I visited Groundspeak last year for the Block Party. Definitely fun!

Great photos PJ! I love the outside the box “selfie” one the most! I was a failure this month and didn’t come up with any photos to participate with, but I will be sure to get it together for next month!

I like all your images , especially the objects outside the geocaching box, they look interesting and unusual, but I don’t know much about geocaching.

I shall have to find out a bit more about it soon as we may be doing a geocaching style treasure hunt event at backlit gallery soon. (only small scale though, we’re just sticking to the local area).

    Great job PJ!

    I run/walk virtual races too – especially when they’re benefiting a nonprofit.

That’s a cool looking metal that I’m jealous of. 🙂

Cameron is adorable – as always!

Geocaching is a whole heap of fun. I have a 101 series on here that I did in the past. You can search my archives for it if interested!

Wow! Cameron seems to be an amazing kid – that patience is unbelievable.

I almost included a geocaching box with my photo set. But while the one you shared looks pristine, with quality swag, the one I almost posted is one we archived in May. It was cracked, with a tab broken off the lid and really bad swag. It seems the “trade even or trade up” practice that prevailed when we started caching all those years ago isn’t really practiced much any more.

I would have liked t have seen that photo. It’s a great way to show geocaching in different elements. The one I took is a new one and hasn’t been placed yet!

I also guess this is why hitting back roads to work is good -- you can stop and take a photo and not worry about anybody coming (usually)! Main roads around here are fine for now, but it's definitely quite picturesque on the lawns/trees etc.

I mean, if you hold a #Wrestlemania in an open stadium... eventually rain delays had to come, right? 🤣
