Well, not really a first. But kind of. Anyway, for the first time in like 10 years, I might not be making my yearly trek to Montreal. It’s a city I love and adore, but it just hasn’t worked out this year. People that usually like to go haven’t been able to commit. People are getting older and moving past trips like this.
It’s a shame.
I was debating next weekend for a couple of days, but those who seemed somewhat interested have quitely backed away. I guess I could go by myself, but not sure if I’m up for a six-hour trip up, two days, and six-hour trip back with the price of gas and hotels up there in the summer.
So, I’m going to try and plot something for the fall. Maybe a weekend getaway. I’d like to see that area when the leaves change anyway. I’m sure it would be quite nice and make for some good photography.
It’s also part of the business I’m in. It’s hard to take a full week of vacation in the summer (at least for me) because of ongoing things. I cover a professional baseball team and need to be working when they are home. So I usually try and take small vacations here and there.
Next weekend, I have a three-day weekend. I want to be in the area on that Sunday because it’s the 1-year anniversary of my father’s death.
But Friday and Saturday I’m open, so was hoping to go away to Canada for those two days. Likely not happening, unless, as I said, I go solo.
So, I’m hoping to find something to do that Friday. Maybe catch a ballgame somewhere. Maybe do some caching. As it looks, I’ll be heading somewhat to northern New York for a caching event on Saturday. That should be fun.
A couple of us are also looking to scoot away this Saturday to New York City. Specifically Brooklyn. I want to do some photography. Though I might opt to pick up a couple of caches in our travels, the goal is photography. I want to take photos of the bridge, of Coney Island, of Nathan’s Hot Dogs and of Times Square — at night.
I’ve avoided my camera so much lately, it probably wants a divorce. So, as long as the weather seems like it will be OK, I’ll likely be heading to Brooklyn to have a good, old-fashioned photo day.
I do want to land four caches soon though. That will give me 300.
