20 Days of Chill: Stress(Day 12)
We all know about stress.
Goodness do we know.
It could be personal – family, friends, relationships and anything else like that.
It could be professional – your job, your co-workers, or anything else related with the job.
It could be something completely different – such as current events, or things going on around the world or something as petty as how your favorite sports team is doing.
But we all know stress.
The levels of stress differ as well. There’s high stress and there’s low stress. Any type of stress can have an adverse effect on your life.
So how do you combat stress?
I’ve told this story many times, but it’s true still to this day. When I worked in newspapers, my stress level was high. I worried about things. I worked long hours and rarely got overtime. I worked when I was sick because I didn’t want others to suffer because I wasn’t in.
Then in February 2011, I was laid off and spent the next 2 1/2 years without a job. That’s stress at another level, too.
During that time, I realize life was too short to miss so many things. When I was working at the newspaper, I missed many events in life – mainly with family. I look back at that now and realize … what was I thinking? For all the stress – and the lack of pay – what did I do?
Even today, I still probably do more than I should (well, technically) but it’s at a different level. Though there is stress when it comes to professional, in the past year or two – it’s improved. I’ve grown with this position and am proud of things, which is nice.
During that time, I’ve dealt with stress in different ways. Maybe it’s a short walk. Maybe it’s playing a game. Maybe it’s reading. There are a lot of different ways.
But I know I feel better with my stress level now than I ever have before.
So how about you? How do you deal with stress? What gives you stress? Are there changes you think you need to make to improve your stress level? I’m always in to learn more ways to limit bad stress, so I look forward to see what people think.
